There's a fleece type pink blanket that I keep on the sofa in the basement and that's what I use to cover my legs and feet on chilly nights when I'm sitting and stitching. Both dogs love it but Cooper wants to chew on it . . and everything else. When they're sitting on my lap, I let them cover up with it but I don't leave it out for them to use it any other time. If Cooper can see it on the ...
Reading to Dogs
Last night I saw the cutest thing ever! We were watching the news and there's a school in Grove, OK where the 2nd graders were reading to dogs and cats at the animal shelter. The children were sitting on the floor on little mats. The dogs were in individual "pens" that were about 2' from each child. The dogs were all sitting on mats or blankets and they all looked like they were intently listening ...
The Sweet Potato Slips
There are so many of those little slips. Yesterday afternoon I cut off as many slips as I could, leaving a bit of the potato attached. There were 32 of those. I planted those in cups and put them in the greenhouse. There are at least that many more slips that I pulled off the potatoes and stuck in the water to grow roots. By Saturday or Sunday, they should be ready to plant in cups. I will ...
Oscar’s Vet Visit
That didn't go so well! The tranquilizers said "Give one pill at least one hour before appointment." I didn't know I was supposed to give it to him on an empty stomach. I had given him half of one several weeks ago when Chad, Nicole and Addie were coming over and I guess it was a few hours between him taking it and their arrival but I wasn't paying attention or thinking about it. He was just the ...
Sweet Potatoes
The sweet potatoes are making so many slips! This evening I'm going to cut the potatoes so I can submerge the tops in water and get all those slips to root and hopefully get a good count on how many plants I'll end up with. I will probably get about 6 potatoes from each slip. I would love to have at least 30 plants. That would give us enough sweet potatoes to be able to have sweet potatoes ...
Freeze Drying Herbs
Tuesday I harvested a big bowl of dead nettle from an area where the dogs do not go, then rinsed it well, left it on a towel to dry for a while, then picked the leaves off the stem. I mostly use the dried leaves for making a tea. The leaves can be left to dry on a towel or they can be dehydrated. I had planned to dehydrate them but then decided to trim back some of the other herbs that have gotten ...
