Tonight while reading Ambah O’Brien’s newsletter, she was discussing the “Me Made Challenge” and redefining the wardrobe. One book she recommends, The Curated Wardrobe, is free with Kindle Unlimited. You can read about the challenge over at So, Zo’s blog.
As you know, I’m not at home yet, have been gone for a week and it will still be a few days before I get home. This trip, I’ve been to one stop for two nights, another stop for three nights, and back to the first stop for four nights.
I will be home for about a week and then will leave again for two weeks. Since I’ve been such a homebody for so long, I’m having to learn more about packing/traveling. So far, I’ve learned:
- Jeans take up a lot of room in the suitcase and they’re heavy!
- Being somewhere that’s warm, then somewhere that’s cool, then back to somewhere warm, means short sleeves, and long sleeves and back to short sleeves.
I’m not officially joining the “Me Made Challenge” because I’m still losing weight. I should say . . once I’m done with the next trip, I’m going back to being committed to the keto diet. I’m not making anything, other than the sweaters I already had planned, til I get to a weight where I will stay but my plans for the wardrobe are:
- Clean out the closet. I will donate anything I will probably never wear again (like things that definitely require ironing!) Jeans that are in good shape I will probably box up an dstore because I know that I have a tendency to gain weight . . though I hope that doesn’t happen.
- Once I’m an at a sustainable weight, I’m going to make or buy lightweight pants that are comfortable and do not take up so much room in a suitcase – definitely wash, dry and wear type clothes. I will probably stick with navy, black and dark gray.
- Make shirts/sweaters that go with any of those clothes. I can so easily make tops that are cute, inexpensive to make, wash and hang to dry.
Maybe it’s just spring cleaning, or the weight loss or maybe a wardrobe makeover is just way overdue.

I’m retired and haven’t worn jeans in 10 years. Athleisure garments are what I live in, yoga pants or loose leggings, knit tanks and hoodies are the 2010’s version of the ‘housedress’ of the 1950’s. I even wear them to the grocery store, gym, and library. Decently covered up and oh so comfy. And my weight can fluctuate a few pounds either way with no problem.

Not quite ready for quite that relaxed. I want one set of clothes that are comfortable enough to wear at home but also nice enough that I can wear most anywhere out.

I bought some packing cubes about a year ago for a trip to northern Norway in the winter when I knew I would have so much clothing and accessories to corral. They are great for keeping an organized well packed bag. I now use them all the time, especially for road trips where I just bring a duffle bag.
Judy Laquidara says
Thanks! I had never seen packing cubes but I’ve just ordered some.
Wander says
Hopefully the cubes will help tame your jeans in your suitcase. =)

Yoga pants are comfy enough for at home yet look nice enough to run errands in. Wash, dry, wear. Maybe not ideal for hot weather but work for cold weather with a pair of leggings underneath when you need to be outside. My go-to wear for at home in the winter is sweats. Jeans are about the coldest clothes you can wear when it’s cold.

We’re in totally different climates. Anything knit is too hot about 10 months out of the year for me. I would die wearing yoga pants in July and August, plus the knits just aren’t sturdy enough for dealing with gardening, chickens, and the outside chores we do. I’ll always have jeans for that kind of work.
We don’t have enough cold weather to even worry about it. I could probably wear shorts year round but I’ve never worn shorts.

There is always Cato’s and when they have a sale, it is really a sale!!
