Vince Wants Yarn

Today’s Meals

You’re not going to believe this. Yarn came today. Well, you believe that. Let me just show you what came today.

First, is Malabrigo Rios in Aquamarine.

This color is so gorgeous!

Here it is a bit more closeup. I was going to make a sweater with lots of cables but I think I’ll save it for something where the yarn is the star of the show and not the cables.

Also arriving today . . Squoosh Fiberarts Ultra DK.

That’s the yarn I originally bought to make All of the Lights but then changed my mind and am going to use something else.

Of course, he was complaining about the yarn continuing to arrive and I said something like “Don’t you just love this color?” and we started talking about yarn and prices. He was mainly interested in the cost of the yarn I order from Europe, which is pretty much less than the yarns I order here but the two types of yarns are totally different. Then he picked up a skein of Dos Tierras I had wound and he said “I like this color!” Can you get that yarn (Rios) in this color so I showed him that it was a bit different.

Then . .

Vince: Can you make me a sweater?
Me: Of course! Let’s look at yarn.
Vince: How much will it cost?
Me: What’s the max you’re willing to spend?
Vince $100

Before I could stop myself, a gasp escaped. NO! I cannot make a sweater for you for less than $100. Then he decided he didn’t want one, but he really did so I said “Let’s look at patterns”. I searched for men sweater patterns and Skogafjall came up. That’s the green sweater I’ve been working on for myself. I send him the link to Cascade yarns and told him to look at those colors because in Cascade, I can make a sweater for him for less than $100.

These are the colors he chose. Yarn is ordered! I told him I was going to wait til October to start it so it can be one of my Q4 KAL projects. I had planned on making mine for the 4th quarter but couldn’t wait to start it. He’s fine with that. It’s a pretty quick sweater and I think he’ll love it but if it’s like his socks, he’ll never wear it!

I told him . . when this yarn comes in, you cannot complain because I ordered yarn! He said . . yes, he can complain .. but he won’t.

Why don’t you teach him how knit then he can start his own stash….of yarn, socks and sweaters. It would be a perfect project in the winter as well as when it’s too hot to be outside during July and August. You two could also have a knitting contest. He just can’t borrow from your stash. Doesn’t that plan sound like fun?

Or you can separate the yarns you don’t think you’ll ever use, and tell him to have at it. LOL

My Mom knit my Dad numerous sweaters over the years. Of course, he DID actually wear them. When he moved into a nursing home, those sweaters and the flannel shirts she had made him were priority items to bring with him. After he died, I kept 1 flannel shirt, 1 sweater and the red vest she made him. (The red vest was the very first item she ever made for him, and he made sure to wear it every year for Christmas.)

I’m knitting a faded shawl now that has that dark blue as the darkest color. I love it. I just bought a magazine Country Living, that had a few mentions about raising chickens. I never thought I would hear about Buff Orpington’s from anywhere else. It also has a nationwide fixer upper houses real estate page. One shows a house in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Another shows a vintage home in Roseburg OR, where my husband and I planned to retire when we lived in CA. Then life interrupted and we were transferred to TX. Not leaving now (grandchildren).

I love Poplar Bluff, MO. Maybe next time I’m in town, I’ll pick that issue up. Thanks!
