Christmas, 2016 is pretty much past and it’s time to look forward – forward to a new year. There are the resolutions . . whether you make them or not, I think most of us anticipate and plan some changes for the new year. It’s a new beginning of sorts, a time when we can commit to losing weight, being more organized, finishing projects before starting new ones . . those seem to be the top three on my list most years.
I’m hoping to get more quilting done, knit more of what I want to knit which means less competition type projects and test knitting. I doubt I do Tour-de-Sock this year, though I may start it just to get some of the patterns. I’ll do the patterns I like and skip the ones I don’t like though, if that had been my strategy in 2016, I would never have done the Diamondback Socks that I love so much.
I don’t see myself trying to finish any huge challenges for the yarn shops this year. I’ll play along if it works with my schedule but I hoping for way less yarn buying this year. Eat, Sleep, Knit has already shared one of their knit alongs. It isn’t something that thrills me. I said no, then yes, then no again. I think if I’ll just take some time to think about things before buying yarn, I’ll do better.
It would make me happy to get in some rug hooking and spinning time . . maybe even finish up a weaving project that’s been on the loom for way too long.
Gardening time will be here before we know it. I’m telling myself I’m going with a smaller garden til we get the grass burrs under control and the pH of the soil back to where it needs to be and til Vince has time to help with the garden. We’ll see if I stick with that plan.
Since I still have only about 16 or 18 hours per day that I’m awake, if I’m going to get more done, something has to go. I plan to spend less time on Ravelry and Facebook . . not giving either up completely but just spending way less time on each per day.
I guess 12 months from now, we’ll know if I accomplished what I set out to do or if I fell into my old habits.
Do you have any things you want to do more or less of during 2017? Share if you’d like or just think about them and keep them to yourself. One thing for sure .. whether Albert Einstein really said this or not, it’s definitely true: Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Ah yes, resolutions. Mine usually fall into the organizing and getting done category. I try to break things down and then ‘assign’ tasks by month. Note the word ‘try’. I’d really like to get my photos under control and have organized what I need to do. I’d love to get my quilt tops quilted – there’s 11, so one a month would get it done. Oh, but then there’s the new ones that will be added to the pile. There’s the knitting projects, the other craft projects and of course tons of quilting projects. I think the key is to not put too much on the list for each month. We’ll see….

The last couple of yrs I’ve not made News Yrs resolutions, especially that mostly after a couple of wks don’t keep them. I just think about how I can “try” to make my own life/new year better & then I really look forward to a new year! No matter what you do Judy, Happy New Year to you & Vince ~ May you have the best year enjoying what ever makes you happy! Enjoy!

I need to review the “guidelines” that I made for 2016 and see where I need to update. I probably need to rename a few of them as “resolutions” so I can get them off the list!

I always make resolutions and have good intentions on doing them, but I never carry through. This year the weight loss goal is back. Sigh. Also on my list this year is to use up more yarn than I buy. I also need to spin more fiber than I buy. (I have 5 sheep fleeces to prep and spin…). We’ll see how well I do. I’m still working on one of this year’s resolutions. I’m trying to clean out and downsize a bit. I’ve been trying the plan of getting rid of 1 thing each day. I have 12 things yet to go this year. I was getting a little desperate, so when I threw out some old boxes today, I counted each one individually. 🙂

I didn’t know that you were a rug hooker too! It intrigues me and I can see picking it up but not before I retire. Not enough time now for stitching, quilting and knitting.
My son surprised us with an Echo for Christmas and we are enjoying it. Have some plugs on their way from Amazon for some lights. I like the idea of being able to turn lights off/on remotely and to turn lights on via voice command when I walk into a dark house. So far, so good!
