Just a little salt, a whole lot of butter, yummy caramel, a tad of cream, and the typical other baking ingredients – sugar, flour and vanilla. This is definitely not low-cal and probably about as unhealthy as you can get but dang . . it’s so good. It’s something I will make probably once every couple of years . . or once every couple of months!
These were made in a 9″ x 13″ pan. Don’t ask me why it looks square in the picture.
What is it about “salted caramel” that makes it so darned good?
Sheri at The Loopy Ewe had this on her blog a while back. I immediately bought 2 bags of individually wrapped caramel pieces. Then I re-read the recipe from Cookies & Cups and told myself I just couldn’t make the recipe. I could not bring myself to use 1 pound of butter in one recipe. The caramel candies began disappearing. Vince didn’t even know where they were so it had to have been me who was eating them! Yesterday I said . . it’s time to make the recipe or you’re not going to have enough caramels left so I made the recipe.
Like a good neighbor . . I shared with my neighbors.
It is so good! If you can get past the 1 pound of butter, I highly recommend this recipe .. once in a blue moon!

Oh, that sounds so good! It’s the sugar that gets me, more than the butter, though. =)

This sounds sooooo good and I love caramel. Will have to make when kids are all here with there family. My problem is, I love all sweets and hubby hardly eats them.

OK…these are on my list. Yum! And I’m not waiting for a cowboy crew to make them either, although it sounds like I ought to split this with some friends.

I have a recipe from a friend for Salted Nut Bars…flour, powdered sugar, butter crust; a layer of caramel, cream, maybe butter?, powdered sugar; layer a can of mixed, salted nuts on top. YUM!!! The sweet and the salty together are just super good. Needless to say I don’t make them any more than you plan to make your recipe. 🙂

I’m still chuckling at the “don’t let the door hit you in the butt…..” post much less worrying about a pound of butter–geez that’s a lot of butter in one recipe! But my cream cheese pound cake uses that much I guess!

No, not much better than salted caramel…sigh. My newest treat is Salted Caramel gelato. Oh my goodness, it is so delightful. I am so making these bars, thanks for sharing (and I will get over than 1lb of butter – LOLOL!)
