It’s funny because most years, I’m happy for the year to end because I can start a clean slate . . usually I’ve added way too many yards. This year, I’m glad for the year to end because I didn’t use nearly enough. It was good that I didn’t add but I really need to use more in 2015. I’m going to try!
2014 is coming to an end and this is our final report for the year. Good luck to all of you next year. If you want to add to your stash, I hope you come across great bargains and find exactly what you’re wanting. If you’re looking to use more from the stash, good luck with that too. I’ll be right there with you.

I’m hoping 2015 is going to be better year for stash usage. Hope it is for you too.

A few years ago my husband was good enough to add deep shelves on 3 sides of a walk in closet in what used to be our daughters bedroom.
Their are 3 shelves up on all sides and room for tubs underneath. I showed my husband your stash and he gave me that sideways look that husbands are famous for and told me not to get any ideas. Ha.

My stash usage has been pretty good this year. I’ve used more of what I had stored and have bought much less.
I had taken apart a top which the blocks were well made but someone one else sewed them to gather without squaring them off and then sewed the seams crookedly and just wrong. I added strips and intersecting blocks from my stash and then found I didn’t have enough to do the border. So had to buy a blender fabric for the border. Also added pieced borders to quilts that needed to grow. My biggest expense this year was backing fabric. I could piece one from my stash but then I might really need that color later. What do others do for your backings.

You may not have used a huge amount, but LOOK at what you added!!
Thanks to you and Vicki Welsh (who inspired me to add up how much I have), I have decided on a stash reduction focus this year. It has to wait, though, as I have a visitor in residence in my sewing room! I hope my resolve lasts past the visit.

To me 74 yards sound like a huge amount. I guess it is all in the perspective. What I need to do is account for my yarn buying/usage…

I have used up plenty of small scraps-usually from the free table at guild. Did not keep yardage count, but have 4 or 5 tops together and all those little pieces are no longer taking up room in the stash! Sewed most of them on my treadle machine upstairs in the living room-would watch for my son’s school bus and then sit and sew for an hour or so! Worked on other projects in the basement sewing area when down there and moved at least 3 to ready to set together and 3 to completed tops! Have 2 small ones half quilted-just have to park my butt over at that machine and finish up the baby quilt so I can change the thread to finish the other one! A little bit at a time and I get things moved to the next step!
