The window guy was here yesterday and Vince was inside talking to him and measuring and doing all the things that I do not need to be involved in so I was outside. Vince called for me to come inside and answer a question. When I walked in, the window man said something like “She does come inside sometime!” Apparently Vince told him I stay outside ALL the time. Not true but it made me laugh. There’s so much to see and do outside this time of year. If I had a bit more land, I might really never come inside.
Yesterday I was out front and I was standing by the corner of the garage talking to Vince. I had no idea there was a bird nest right by my head. Some bird, Vince thinks it’s a dove, built a nest right where the gutter comes down and turns. I must have had my head about 2″ from the next when Mama bird took of and scared me half to death.

Can you see him behind the weeds? Sometimes he will go behind the 4’x4 post and he barely fits between the fence and the post but I think he thinks he’s hidden when he’s back there. he’s been around for a couple of days because Vince saw him yesterday.
Then this morning I was out with Cooper and he stopped and was sniffing something. I thought it was just a clump of grass but it was a tiny little bunny!

The rest of this will be about the garden.
The potatoes are growing nicely.

The raspberries are about to bloom and it looks like it will be a good year for them.

The rhubarb is growing and I probably should have cut some of it today but didn’t.

The garlic is looking better than it did last year. I’m hoping it will be a great crop since I didn’t plant quite as much as I did in the previous couple of years. Just not enough space! I do have two 4 x 8 beds of garlic but I have been adding a 4 x 4 bed so we may be on garlic rations this year.

The peonies will be blooming in a week or so. They have lots of buds. Cannot wait for those to bloom.

Last photo for today – a week or so ago, I trimmed (aggressively) the bay leaf trees. They’re in pots and during the winter, Vince has to bring them in and out depending on the weather. It isn’t worth running the heat in the greenhouse so he brings them into the downstairs garage, which is heated. Then we have a sunny, warm enough day and he takes them out. They have gotten terribly heavy. I keep asking him to build something like a little wagon but just maybe a 20″ x 20″ square of wood with rollers and we could pull them in and out of the garage and not have to lift them. I prune them back a little every spring but I really gave them a serious cutting back the other day, hoping to get some of the weight off them. I was afraid I might have damaged them. But, I’m happy to see new growth sprouting.

I keep thinking I should find a new home for them. I have more bay leaves than I will ever use but who is going to love my bay leaf trees like I do? No one because I’m crazy . . so I keep them!

For moving the bay trees, perhaps a piano moving dolly would work? It depends on whether he is trying to move them out in the grass on sunny days, or leaving them on a smooth surface. They only cost about $20 at Harbor Freight. I use mine all the time to move stuff since I don’t have anyone to help me.

I want something with wheels that we can put them on and leave them. If we had that, we can pull them out onto the patio to get sun and water, then pull them back in when it’s going to be cold. I’ll check Harbor Freight. Thank you so much.

I just looked at those online. EXACTLY what I had in mind. I’ve been telling Vince – get a pallet and put wheels on it . . the piano moving dolly is basically a pallet with wheels. I hope we go to Harbor Freight next week and get two of them. Thank you!!

The robins like to build nests where the downspout bends to meet the house in my neighborhood. I have one next to the carport right now. Then the robins “yell” at me every time I get “too close”. Their opinion of too close and my opinion of too close are very different…LOL

There are Robin nests in several places in the back yard. One is on a branch right above the propane tank. I went the other day to check the propane level. The trees are kinda grown up around it and I’m always halfway afraid going back there and that Mama bird about scared me to death. I told myself I will NOT be going to check the propane level again til September!
