Even if you aren’t a cross stitcher, you probably know how much I love Vikki Clayton’s silk floss. Love it!! She’s now dying linen! Once upon a time, she dyed linen . . way before I was back to stitching. This linen is different. She has the linen made to her specifications and my understanding is that one of her “must haves” was to be able to keep it reasonably priced. She’s selling it for $16 for a fat quarter. So, if you’re a cross stitcher, and you use linen, you can read the blurb below that I posted on Facebook, then there are some photos of some of the stitching I’ve done using the linen.
I almost feel like I should NOT share this because if everyone starts buying this linen, it may make it harder for me to get it when I *need* it but . . Vikki Clayton, who is the dyer behind the floss that I love and use almost exclusively, has started dying linen. She had the linen made for her and it is not the popular Z brand but it’s a very nice linen. I received a piece of it today and immediately loaded it on a frame and started stitching to try it out. I’m impressed. The weave is even, there are ZERO slubs or fuzzies on the piece I received but those may happen occasionally. There does seem to be more difference in the thickness and thinness (evenness?) of the threads but I think that makes it look somewhat vintage and reminds me of what our ancestors would probably have stitched on. It feels really good – almost silky. I always spray my linen with Best Press and iron it before loading it on the frames so I think it has a great feel but one lady said she felt it was softer than the Z linen. I’m feeling a piece of both and can’t tell much difference.
Here’s where Vikki’s linen really shines for me: 1. It’s $16 for a fat quarter. 2. Her shipping is $4. Order 10 fat halves or one fat quarter and the shipping is $4. 3. She says that her colors will always be exactly the same so if you order Yamp Up today and then order Yamp Up this time next year, it will be the same color. 4. Vikki and/or her husband rigged up some kind of gizmo so her linen cuts are exactly straight! As in . . EXACTLY! Some linens are cut so crooked that by the time I pull a thread and straighten them, I have lost at least an inch and sometimes 1-1/2″. That can make a big difference, depending on the size of what I’m stitching. I will put a link to Vikki’s site in the first comment. Below are photos of stitching I’ve done this evening on the new linen – 40 count Ramp Up.
Currently she only has 40 count but will have other counts soon. And, I’ve bought from Vikki for several years and her customer service is the best.
As I’m stitching in the future, I’ll share which linen I’m using. I have a LOT of linen already so I will not be using exclusively Vikki’s linen, even though I love the price and so far, love the linen.
