It’s far from new but it will be new to him and it will be much needed (probably used and abused) and I hope he loves it half as much as he loved his other pickup. He only wanted a GMC or Chevrolet because his friend will work on those and that guy can fix anything!
Vince had gone by our mechanic’s shop the other day because he wanted to ask them about doing some work on his car and he was telling them about Chad’s pickup/deer incident. They told Vince they had a pickup they had bought . . kinda to take it off someone’s hands . . because they said it had a bad transmission. He bought it because he knew he could use the motor in something else and then he’d been driving it and he said he’s tried everything to cause the transmission to slip and he can’t get it to malfunction. We trust the guy and the price is good enough that if Chad has to replace the transmission, it will still have been a good deal.
It’s a 2013 model. This is what the truck looked like new. It isn’t quite so shiny now but it doesn’t look bad.
The mechanic is going to drain the transmission fluid and check to see if there are any shavings in there (I think that’s what he said . . I wasn’t there and none of this makes any sense to me), replace it with new fluid, check a few other things. If he sees any problems, he will change the transmission. He’s going to have it detailed and there were a few other things he was going to do. Apparently that’s a year when the paint didn’t do a great job of sticking and there’s a spot above the windshield where the paint is missing – about the size of a man’s hand. The mechanic is going to see if his paint & body guy has time to fix it. If not, Chad said he can fix it. Chad is going to buy new headlights – the old headlights are yellowish and look old. I think it has less than 150K miles on it, AND it’s 4 wheel drive so that makes Chad happy. He’s also happy to have the four doors because Addie is a long legged girl and they seem to take Roxy (dog) EVERYWHERE they go (even here!). His old pickup is just a regular one seat pickup and when they go to the lake or go out doing things where he doesn’t want to take Nicole’s SUV, the extra space will be nice. Chad is also going to put new front tires on it before winter.
Vince feels good about the pickup. Chad seems happy with it. The mechanic also told Chad that if the transmission gives him any trouble in the future, if Chad will buy one (about $2,500), he will install it at no cost for labor.
I’m happy if those two are happy . . but mainly if Chad is good with it, that makes it all good. I’m hoping he will put a deer guard/shield on the front of it.
Chad did find a “parts” truck and his friend will start working on this wrecked truck this week. It needs a front left quarter panel, a hood, a grill, a a power steering pump and a radiator and maybe more once they get it all apart. He said he wants it as a backup and . . Miss Addie will be driving in a few years. I’m thinking . . dude, you’re dreaming if you think she’s going to be happy driving either one of those trucks but I’m not even bringing that up.
