As the mom of one child, as Chad grew up – especially after he went to college, in the back of my mind was always “I hope he marries someone I can have a relationship with. I prayed that, in the least, we could be able to get along and not dislike each other.
I’ve told this story before on here but when Chad first started dating Nicole, I heard about it from Chad’s previous girlfriend. She and I had not been close and she called me one day wanting to chit chat . . not something that had ever happened before. She got around to telling me that Chad had found someone in our town (she was NOT from our town) that he would rather spend his time with. News to me! I told Chad that I had gotten that phone call and he was a bit evasive. It was a month or so before he brought Nicole to our house. They came in, sat down in the living room. Vince wasn’t home and I wanted to make conversation and one of the things I said was “Do you sew or knit?” She looked at me like I was from Mars and said “WHY WOULD I?” OK . . maybe this isn’t the girl I want for my DIL but I knew I wasn’t going to have a say. I don’t even know where the conversation went from there.
I don’t even remember when that was. We left MO in 2011. It was probably 2009 or 2010.
Nicole is the best daughter-in-law. As far as I know, we’ve never had a problem with each other. We take a girls’ trip together every summer. We have fun together. As long as my uncle is willing to have us visit him, we spend a week in Louisiana. My uncle loves Addie and I want her to have good memories of him. I feel like she’s a great wife for Chad, probably a little more lenient with Addie than I would be but they have a good relationship and Addie is respectful and kind hearted.
Nicole had a birthday recently. Addie made her a cake. I asked Nicole if I could use this picture. I think it’s such a good picture of her. She’s one who always looks pretty – whether she’s all dressed up or whether she’s been working out and thinks she’s a mess.
I couldn’t have asked for a better daughter-in-law. I love you, girl, and hope you had a very good birthday and have many, many more!
For what it’s worth, she does knit now!

I remember you blogging about that! I’m so glad you have a great relationship with her. I was blessed with a very loving and supporting mother-in-law myself, and try to be a good one also.

Love to hear that Nicole is knitting. I recall your Hitofude knit sweater that you knit for Nicole. It encouraged me to get back knitting and to hope one-day I could be able to knit such a sweater.

I have two sons and I’m praying I am blessed with good relationships when I have DILs. My boyos know how to cook, clean, do laundry. . . I’m trying to make my future DILs like me!

-I remember that “why would I?” It’s good to have a chuckle.
I also remember that one thing you liked about Nicole was that she was always smiling. How lovely to have a happy person in your life. (You “did good” with Chad, that he married a good woman).
