I think I got my first grain mill in either 2007 or 2009. I cannot remember . . ok. I was wrong. I found this blog post. I got it in 2008.
We’ve had mostly homemade bread since 2008 so for almost 16 years, we’ve had bread made from truly whole grains. When anyone has asked me . . “why do you do it?”, I would simply say “It’s much more healthy” but I had no idea how much healthier til I watched Sue Becker’s video last night.
For years and years I’ve heard of Sue Becker and I have a couple of her whole grain cookbooks but when I found her video yesterday and started watching it, I was shocked to learn of ALL the benefits. She is amazing and so knowledgeable. I encourage you to watch that video if you have ever even thought about milling your own flour.
I started watching the video yesterday and thought . . Vince needs to see this so I stopped and we watched it together last night. Vince isn’t easily impressed (don’t even ask how he ended up with me for a wife!) but he was impressed with Sue Becker. He said “She does a great job and explains it all so well!”
I don’t want to preach but, if you have ever thought about milling your own healthy, whole grain flour, take a look at that video. It may be just enough to have you ordering a grain mill.
And, the first grain mill that I ordered (mentioned in the blog where I ordered it) is not the one I use today so if you want my opinion on grain mills, let me know. I’ll be happy to share my thoughts about grain mills.

Just pulled up the video and have only watched it for a few minutes, and will be watching it full later when I have more time. I started telling my engineer husband, who is diabetic, about the health benefits of home milled flour and he pulled out his laptop and started researching them. I have been making our own bread for two years and just haven’t made the investment into purchasing a grain mill. Which one do you now recommend?

I’m going to write a blog post about this because I’ve had several questions.

I have considered a grain mill for awhile but got overwhelmed when trying to decide which one. I would like to know why you now use the one you have.
