I stayed up last night and got started on my Blessings Project, which is Strawberry Harvest. I’m a night owl so I wasn’t up any later than usual and got some stitching done. I waited til Vince went to bed just after the clock struck 12 to start stitching. Vince has always said that it was ok to go to bed after 11 because it’s midnight in New York and that’s when the new year starts. For all these years I’ve tried to keep him up til midnight. Last night I said . . fine . . you go to bed whenever you wish but I’m staying up to stitch. I think he was counting on it being noisy (fireworks) in the neighborhood and the dogs freaking out so he stayed up. Y’all . . there wasn’t a single firework. I even went outside to see if I was just not hearing them in the basement. Nope . . nothing. Vince and I talked about how we hadn’t even seen any firework stands. Usually there is one north of us and one south of us and neither of those were even open this year. Weird . . but thankful for no noise.
I was able to get a good night’s sleep and this morning got enough stitching done to give me some peace of mind.

You see the border . . see that little stitched jump (I guess that’s a hill) and the darker area above that? I wanted the sheep to be stitched in the darker area so he would have a better chance of showing up with the called for floss. I calculated and measured and calculated and measured again. Then I stitched that little part of the hill the sheep will be standing on. Then I went on with the border. Before I started the sheep and the house, I wanted to make sure I was going to have enough space on the linen. Thank goodness I used a piece of linen that was a bit larger than I needed because I hadn’t even thought about stitching the sheep on a darker area of that mottled linen.
It all worked out. Now I need to stop stitching and go get our lunch started. There is more to life than cross stitching . . even on New Year’s Day! 🙂

Happy New Year to you and yours! Let’s pray that 2024 is an easier year than 2023 has been. Regardless, we’ll have our stitching to distract us!

Happy New Year! We had plenty of fireworks in our town. The first ones I heard almost sounded like gunshots, and that startled me. (who knows…they may have been gunshots.) I just wish they hadn’t gone on as long as they did.

We were lucky!

You certainly were lucky! The fireworks/crackers started around 6 or 7, crescendoed at midnight, and finally tapered off around 1 a.m.
I wonder if it would be less if they were even legal here

That’s crazy that there are so many and they aren’t even legal. They’re legal here with some restrictions in the cities but out in the county, people could do it year round with no restrictions.
