Today is the official start of the Stitch Along for the Martha Evans 1879 chart and the SAL is commemorating a big birthday that Brenda, of Brenda & The Serial Starter, is celebrating today. I think Brenda is a wonderful person and I love The Scarlett House designs so I jumped on this one.
The chart is Martha Evans 1879 and can be found here.
I woke up very early this morning and couldn’t wait to get started. I didn’t have the called for fabric but knew something I had here would work just fine. Several different times I pulled out fabric I thought would work, made a decision, then started second guessing myself. Here’s a post from about a week ago where I was sure I had decided on a fabric but last night, I again began to wonder if that was the best fabric.
At 4 a.m. I woke up thinking about the fabric, quietly got up, went downstairs and dug out more fabric. I totally changed my mind and decided on a piece of 46 count Snickerdoodle by Roxy Floss Co.
It was a half yard and I didn’t want to cut it down to size until I was sure it was actually what I wanted to use. The white floss was what I was most concerned with so I stitched a bit of border, until I could get down to stitching on a bird and see what the white floss would look like.
This larger picture may give you a better idea of the linen. It’s a taupe color with a bit of brownish pinkish mottling.
I think it will be perfect!
I’ve cut it down, serged the edges and I would like to finish stitching the border before putting it in a frame but we’ll have to see how my hand feels about that idea.
I’m using silks from Victoria Clayton Silks and they are wonderful. I love her silks.

The white pops nicely on that fabric – good choice.

Since the white is visible, it’s a good choice. I, too, like Vicki’s silks. I’ve never done XS with them, but I can’t imagine it wouldn’t be perfect.
