My chart arrived yesterday. I already had the floss from Vikki Clayton so I pulled some fabric I have here. This is the floss on 40 count Light Hazelnut by XJu Designs.
I think I might change out that lightest peach for a bit darker.
The fabric on the left is Light Hazelnut on 36 count and the one on the right is the same color but 40 count. Sometimes the same dye lot will result in different colors on different counts of fabric but I doubt the two I have were dyed at the same time. One came directly from XJu and one came from the Kitten Stitcher. But, you can see the darker floss on the left and the lighter floss on the right.
Here’s how the two flosses look on the 40 count. The above floss is going to blend with the fabric. I can make a few stitches and see what I think. If all the stitches using this color are surrounded by other colored stitches, and not directly against the fabric, I’ll stick with the original color.
If I use 40 count, this piece will finish at 10-3/8 x 13-3/4″. If I add an inch border, it will be 12-3/8 x 15-3/4″ for framing. If I use 36 count, it will finish at 11-1/2″ x 15-3/8″. With the 1″ border, it will be 13-1/2″ x 17-3/8″. I think I’m going to go with the 40 count unless that makes it seem too scrunchy.
I found a couple on Instagram that were stitched on 40 count so I’m going with that.

Pretty colors! This isn’t Elizabeth Eyles, is it?

No. This is the New Year Sampler that I’m starting on Christmas Eve. Elizabeth Eyles start New Year’s Day.
JackiesStitches says
Oh yes, that is the New Years SAL! Ugh. I was thinking the colors didn’t look like mine!
judy.blog@gmail.com says
It is going to be confusing since I’m going to be working on both!

Can you give me a list of the colors you chose, I’m thinking this would be the perfect project for me to try silk floss. It doesn’t have too many colors, so if I don’t like it, it won’t be too much of a waste.

I am so confused……THE NEW YEARS SAMPLER that you are starting on Christmas Eve…..hahaha…I got it now!
judy.blog@gmail.com says
I confused myself a bit on that one too, which probably added to the confusion you’re feeling.

Lovely floss. I got my additional Victorian Motto floss I had ordered for this project so can now sort thru all the reds and greens to pick the ones I’ll use.

Those big skeins are so nice.

Since you are building a stash of floss, do you plan to reorder the color once you kit up a project? And, if a new project comes up, have you raided the kits for the fabric or floss?
I do have a bunch of “fabric families” that I bought and still have problems using some of the fabric, just in case I can’t find something to replace it. I’m hoping for a nice long-lasting snowstorm this winter to get into the quilt room reorg.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
Yes. If I’m using DMC, when I pull the floss and put it in a kit, I put it on my list to re-order. Hobby Lobby and 123 Stitch have DMC for the same price. It’s so much easier to order online than stand at Hobby Lobby pulling floss.
I do not take floss out of the kit once it’s in there. I do the same thing with the overdyes. If I’m kitting, I pull floss from the stash, then re-order what I used. It’s harder to get sometimes so I try to keep a lot of colors on hand.
I generally will not take fabric out of a kit either. Once I’ve tweaked the floss colors to get them right for the fabric, I don’t want to have to start over with that.
I’ve gotten over not using quilting fabric because I will no longer have it but with linens, there are some colors that I’m having a real hard time using.

Judy, I received a chart I ordered just recently. The chart was expensive and of course I questioned myself. I am so guilty of skimming and not reading. When I opened that chart something was left in bag. It was 28 count linen. Guess now I will give linen a go!

Good! How can you say no? 🙂 I hope you like it.

….Your kits sound like my quilting fabric “homes”. Once I put a grouping in a home, it doesn’t leave until the quilt gets cut.
Are you hand winding the bobbins or using a bobbin winder? Also, where did you get the plastic bobbins?
From your previously somewhat sane friend in Hurricane Land.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
If you’re asking about the Vikki Clayton bobbins, that floss comes on those bobbins.
Are you saying it was ME or cross stitching in general that has caused you to no longer be sane? 🙂

I just ordered a bunch of floss from Owl Forest. They say it can take 4 months so I probably won’t be doing one of the charts I downloaded for Christmas Eve…lol. I’m new to starting charts on special days so I will have to look at what I have for the coming year. My older son and his fiancé will be with us for Christmas so I’m not sure I will start something while they are here. I bought A Good Marriage so I will likely save that for our anniversary. It’s kind of fun planning on starts! Guess I will have to get used to having multiple projects going. 😀
judy.blog@gmail.com says
Maybe you’ll get lucky and your floss will arrive early. I love planning new projects and then getting them all kitted up. A Good Marriage will be a great anniversary start!
I’m anxious to see where I am with all this at the end of 2022. I hope I’ve made a lot of finished and don’t have 40 WIPs from all this planning.

Love those reds!
