Change of Plans

Yesterday I told Addie “Tomorrow, I’m not doing any work. I’m sitting and stitch all day but I’ll play Uno with you and I’ll stitch outside in the morning for a while so you can draw with your chalk.”

Vince’s plans were to get the salmon started (it’s a two day process). We’re supposed to bring that to our friends tomorrow and Chad and Nicole are coming tomorrow and spending the night so we were going to have smoked salmon and grilled chicken.

Just before noon, I don’t think I had sat down once. Addie said “Granny! You said you weren’t going to work today!” I told her I say that every day. It’s a dream I have of actually spending a day not working.” 🙂

I think we had 12 pounds of blueberries in the fridge and 15 pounds of blackberries. Even with three fridges, we had very little space and Vince needs to put each big slab of salmon in a big glass dish and leave it in the fridge overnight to dry out a bit so he asked if there was a way to make some room in the fridge. I had 5 or 6 trays of blueberries in the freezer so I divided those all up into 2 to 2-1/2 cup portions, but them in bags, vacuum sealed them and got them in the big freezer. I was able to get all the blackberries on the trays and put them in the freezer. I’m thinking they may be frozen enough by the time Vince is ready to start the salmon that I can freeze them, then put the blueberries from the fridge onto the trays in the freezer.

While I was doing all that, I opened the garage door since I was in and out and Addie did her drawing on the driveway. Since her dad is coming, she wrote him a note:

Vince had asked for blueberry pancakes this morning. Since he’s grilling steak tonight, and I shouldn’t have to cook another meal, I figured I could make the pancakes as soon as I finished getting the blackberries on trays but before I finished that, the Amish guy from the sawmill called and said he had Vince’s order ready to be picked up. The sawmill is maybe 45 minutes from where Chad lives. It’s more lumber than Vince can bring back with one load in his pickup so he asked Chad if he would go with him, get part of it and bring it here. So the pancake breakfast didn’t happen. I told Addie we’d fix blueberry pancakes while her parents are here this weekend.

I ended up fixing scrambled eggs with cheese, sausage and toast for us. My bread dough was really rising when I made it the other day.

I mentioned that we bought sausage from the meat market yesterday. I only bought four pounds because I wanted to try it before buying more. It was great. $1.99 per pound and there was hardly any grease in it at all. I think Vince will be happy to go back and get more of that once he tries it.

Addie and I are headed to the fireworks stand and then to eat Mexican. Not sure any of this is what I had planned for today but we’re all having a fun day.
