Many years ago, I read a blog by a U. S. Army Chaplain and, even though I don’t remember his name . . though if I thought about it long enough, I would probably remember.
Here’s a story I will never forget. He was married and had children that were old enough to leave alone for a few minutes. He wrote about a time when his unit had come come from an overseas assignment and they arrived at the airport or base sometime way early in the morning – like 3 or 4 a.m. He said every other soldier had some method of getting home but no one there waiting for them. The chaplain’s wife was there waiting for him and he talked about how much that meant to him.
I thought . . I want to be that wife who drags herself out of bed, gets dressed and makes her husband feel special.
So, this morning, Vince’s friend was picking him up so they could be at the airport at 5 a.m. It was funny they were on the same flight . . not really funny because otherwise, I would have been driving Vince to the airport.
But, I thought about it and I told Vince I’d fix him breakfast. He said “You don’t have to do that!” I thought . . no, I don’t HAVE to do it but I want to do it.
Can you see that clock? 4:17 a.m. and I was fixing breakfast.
I told Vince . . maybe I’ll start getting up at 4 every morning. He laughed. I think that means he knows me well enough to know that isn’t going to happen.
A lot of mornings I’m up a little after 5 but there are plenty of mornings I’m not up so early. I don’t see me ever having 4 a.m. as my regular wake up time.

Dan had to be up at five for years to get to his job by 6:30. I always got up and fixed his breakfast because if he had to work 10-12 hour days, he deserved a good hot breakfast. Apparently some of the other foresters he worked with heard about it and told their wives. One of them said fine. The next morning she got up and poured her husband a bowl of cereal complete with milk and then went back to bed. When he got done shaving, he went to the table to find a bowl of soggy cereal. End of story!! LOL

Oh, my goodness. I’m not even going to say what I think of that wife. I agree — if the man is going to work all day, the least we can do is send them off with a hot breakfast if that’s something they want. When I told Vince I’d have breakfast ready at 4:30, I kinda expected him to say no because he didn’t want to eat a lot before getting on the plane but he said “You don’t have to do that!” I told him “I know I don’t HAVE to do it, but I’m happy to do it” and he was good with that.

4:17 AM was about the time I was finally falling asleep the other night… Couldn’t do it a a wake-up time. in Basic Training we were always up at 5, but I’m retired now and my radio doesn’t turn on till 8 AM!! Early enough!! 🙂

I’m so sorry. I go to sleep the minute my head hits the pillow. It will take me a few nights to get used to sleeping alone but I almost always sleep like a rock. I also never set an alarm but often am up about daylight. This morning I had my clock set for 4:10 but woke up at 3:58. It’s weird that I sleep so soundly but when I do have to wake up, I always wake up before the alarm goes off.

I also almost always wake up about 10 minutes before the alarm clock rings. My DH falls asleep the minute his head hits the pillow. NOT me it often takes a while to go to sleep. No I would not get DH’s breakfast but would get up to take him somewhere if he needed to go. He does not drive anymore.
