I really love the farmers’ market here. Yesterday morning we got there just a few minutes after they opened and it was packed! Finding a parking spot seems to be a problem on Saturday’s market but we found one that someone was just leaving.
During the peak of the season, they’re open Tuesday evening, Thursday (not sure what time) and Saturday morning but this late, they’ve stopped doing the Thursday market so it’s just Tuesday and Saturday.
Here’s what we got yesterday:
Corn on the cob, a canary melon, egg rolls, pink oyster mushrooms, eggplant, elephant garlic and homemade pasta!
For dinner last night, I cooked one container of the homemade pasta and served it with left leftover red sauce and made a garlic/cream sauce using the pink oyster mushrooms. Corn on the cob and salad, along with garlic bread finished it off. Delicious and oh, so fresh!

Probably most of that wouldn’t have been in my shopping bag, but that’s the fun of a Farmer’s Market. I haven’t been down to Market Square in downtown Knoxville this year. It’s Saturday mornings, about May through mid-September, I think. I could go and park in the garage, but it’s seemed like a lot of effort lately. =) My friends have brought me tomatoes, cucumbers (how nice to have one that didn’t turn to mush in two days!!!), watermelon, and something else I forget. That’s almost as good as going to the market. =)
