Even though Vince didn’t have much luck growing mushrooms in Texas, there are several places around here (MO) that grow them and sell them at the farmers’ market.
Yesterday evening we went to the farmer’s market and bought a package of Blue Oyster mushrooms and a package of Lion’s Mane mushrooms, along with a few tomatoes, squash and some elephant garlic.
I cooked the mushrooms, separately, but both with a garlic butter sauce and served them over pasta with parmesan cheese, chopped tomatoes and parsely.
The Blue Oysters are on the left and the Lion’s Mane on the right.
This is the kind of meal I could eat every day – quick to fix, not terribly heavy and yummy!
I’ve already contacted the mushroom lady and will get more today or tomorrow, then we’ll go back to the farmers’ market on Saturday. I think there are more vendors on weekends.
I had heard about the farmers’ market the whole time we lived here before and never was able to make it over here so I’m very happy that now it’s probably not much more than 5 miles from our house.

I LOVE lions mane mushrooms. I get them in the winter when we have the indoor farmers market. Hmmm….wonder if that will happen this year as there are lots of vendors and skazillion people. Otherwise the mushroom man is 2 hrs away.

Looks wonderful…. once you get your freeze drier up to MO, you have a great place to get foods and none of the gardening hassles.

That’s what I thought–let someone ELSE do the growing! 😀

Oh YUM, YUM, YUM!! Those mushrooms look wonderful. I went to a farmer’s market with my daughter and grandkids a couple of weeks ago and they had a similar selection of mushrooms. But we were headed to the zoo after the market and it was too hot to leave produce in the car. So I had to pass on all the goodies. Next time I’m taking my cooler.

We have mushroom growers in PA, but we generally never find anything but the button mushroooms. Yours look really yummy, but this is just one more thing hubby won’t eat…. story of my life….

Same with me, I love mushrooms and they’re one of the few vegetables I can eat, but my husband hates “eating fungus” so I don’t have them often! The things we do for our spouses…

Can Vince bring some if his logs from Texas and try growing in Missouri?

That’s the type of dinner I like! The other night I had an ear of corn. And as I had some already sauteed mushrooms left over and some steamed zucchini I topped with both with Brie in the same bowl and nuked it. A totally satisfying dinner.
