It isn’t often I start to write a blog post and I think “those readers are going to be really proud of me!” but today . . I think you’ll all be super proud of me!
It started with The Loopy Ewe. Earlier this week, they had new yarn come in that was so beautiful. It was fingering weight yarn. I put several skeins in my cart. Addie looked at it and picked a few colors she wanted for socks. I thought about it for a while and decided I didn’t need it. Every skein of yarn in my stash is something I love and thought I needed it when I bought it. There were a couple of times when I went back and added yarn to my cart but I didn’t buy any.
Next, Eat, Sleep, Knit had new colors in a yarn I like. They were solids and I can always used solids for sweaters. I put several sweater quantities in my car and then talked myself out of it. The next day, they announced a challenge and you could win a sweater quantity of some one of a kind yarn. Oh . . I wanted that so I put more yarn in my cart and then talked myself out of it.
Finally, Miss Babs . . they have several new colors I’ve wanted, along with a couple of sets and more than once, I had the cart loaded up there and then talked myself out of it.
Buying yarn is a hobby. It has nothing to do with need or even want . . I just love picking out yarn, getting boxes, seeing the new yarn. But, I also love digging through the stash and finding yarn that works.
Vince swears a box of yarn comes in here every day. I was gone for 12 or 13 days and not a single box of yarn arrived. I’ve been home 3 days and not a single box of yarn arrived. He still says “Yarn gets delivered EVERY day!” I say “Did yarn come today? No! Did yarn come yesterday? No!” He still says it arrives every day. Perception seems to be his reality. I guess some day he’ll believe I’m not buying yarn. Maybe some day I’ll even convince myself! 🙂

I totally understand! I love to buy purses! And, the purses I love are Dooney & Bourke! I just purchased a brand new vehicle, and I am looking at all the emails from D&B, about a wonderful new price or purse, and I find my perfect color and put it in my cart, then remove it fast, because I promised myself, no new purses for quite a while, I went over my car budget….so, carry my beautiful current purses and made a vow to not buy any more for a couple years…….but, it still feels like shopping, to put a purse in a cart,,,,let it “marinate” for a bit, then remove it, and go look at that shiny new vehicle in my garage!

I’ve figured out that buying fabric is a whole separate hobby from quilting! I sure don’t need more fabric, and I was actually doing pretty well this year. This week we went on a little vacation, and there happened to be a fabric warehouse nearby, and I went a little wild when I heard all the fabric was half price. I did manage to keep my purchases under $100, which shows great restraint on my part.

Your restraint is commendable! I applaud you! But as we all know, there comes the time………. LOL

You could have a friend come and take a couple of your bins of yarn home and then mail it back to you a few skeins at a time.. You would have the joy of getting yarn in the mail and the postage would be cheaper than buying new! Congrats on your restraint, next step is to not put them into the cart at all !

That’s how I’ve always been about fabric. There are ones so pretty, I can’t let the store hold on to them for me! LOL I’ve not bought any in quite a while, though. And I’ve used over 70 yards in projects this year.

You’re doing well! You are having the fun of looking and choosing even while exercising your restraint. And it seems to be a reminder of what you already have. Good on you!
