Yes, as crazy as it is, I’ve been actually counting down the minutes til my Medicare starts. This will probably be even crazier but I’m wondering if part of why I’ve been sick so much lately . . because I am NEVER sick . . is because I’ve been so worried about getting sick while I had this awful insurance.
Several times tonight, I’ve told Vince how many hours til Medicare starts. He said “Are you worried?” I said “Yes, I could have a heart attack or something before Medicare starts!”
Here’s the funny thing. In July when I was taking a med that made my blood pressure go sky high, Vince and I decided to go to the ER but we were going to the hospital in Abilene – 90 minutes away. I said “I’m going to wind some yarn first because if they keep me, I need a project.” He wasn’t happy about that, but I did it. Then we got to Abilene and he said “They aren’t going to let you eat!” I said “Let’s go eat first!” and we did. We went to Chick-Fil-A and ate, then went to the ER – fully belly and yarn for knitting.
So, while ago, I said “1 hour, 15 minutes!” He said “But, if we left right now, you’d have Medicare by the time we got there. I said “Does that include stopping at Chick-Fil-A to eat?”
So, I think I’m going to make it to midnight without having any medical issues! 🙂

Happy Happy birthday to you! I’m only 58. I can’t wait to get to Medicare so I can retire! How many US citizens are working only because of the expensive risk of health needs?
So today, we all celebrate YOUR BIRTHDAY!

Happy Birthday and happy-being-home. Having Medicare in place goes without saying. I was self-employed and practiced being super-careful once we were no longer working and had no insurance (my husband had disability and VA coverage and he was the sick one). I celebrated that Medicare birthday. It’s been good coverage since inception.

Thank goodness for insurance through my retirement and now I have added Medicare also. But even with decent insurance I had to have one surgery with lots of out of pocket expense and did take money out of the IRA to pay for it. Glad I could do that.
My husband applied to get his medical records from the military and found out over three years he is considered a disabled vet and has lots of benefits there. Hearing aids.
