Last night I was catching up on email and came across an article about Harriet’s Hat.came across the pattern on Ravelry for Harriet’s Hat. After going through what I’ve gone through with health insurance this past year, I have a special place in my heart for those who are unable to get needed medical care, either because of lack of ability to pay or lack of available services.
It’s a very pretty colorwork hat and 100% of the proceeds going to raising money for an MRI scanner for Shetland. You can read this page and there’s a link to follow to make a donation. The minimum donation was $5.30 last night. With the currency exchange fluctuation, it could change a bit.
Jamieson & Smith’s has the kit, which is 6 – 25 g. balls of their 2 ply jumper weight 100% Shetland wool, which, in my opinion, is the best for colorwork.
I have ordered yarn quite a few times from Jamieson & Smith. The shipping is prompt and I love their yarn. I ordered two kits to make the hat and I’m betting I can get at least three hats from two kits.
So, if you feel inclined to help a worthy cause, try a little colorwork and make a beautiful hat, check this out please.

That is lovely – but confusing that you buy the pattern at one site and the kit at another

You don’t have to buy the kit. You can use any yarn. I think it’s that way because all the proceeds are going to the charity. For Jamieson & Smith to sell the pattern with the kit, it would have to be printed and there would be additional expense. I love Jamieson & Smith but I think they’re pretty basic, no frills and probably didn’t want to deal with trying to send out pdf patterns. It’s quite simple to buy the pattern and the yarn separately (too simple for me – I should have bought the pattern and used stash yarn!)

It looks lovely, and you’ll have both the pattern and the experience to decide what to use from your stash to make more, if you choose to. It looks like a great hat for any kind of donation.

Thank you for sharing. I just donated too; so glad to help in a small way. I have had an MRI scan…it was key to finally obtaining a correct diagnosis and getting the help I needed.

so lovely to see you promoting this here – my hat is on the needles and my lys sells jamison and smith so I was able to get the yarn from her to match the pattern – it is lovely yarn to do colorwork with and the cause is an excellent one. My hat will be part of my Shetland Wool Week Wardrobe which is another positive!
