From my favorite knitting position, I can see a bird bath that almost always is full of birds. Some days they gently splash around. Some days they splash with gusto and water is flying everywhere. I fill the shallow bird bath at least twice a day but I love watching the birds, especially this time of year.
Twice today, I’ve grabbed my camera to get a picture and they flew off before I got my photo.
First, there was a bird that kinda looked like a cardinal but the red was almost fluorescent and the breast/abdomen area looked blue-ish . . kinda reverse of female bluebird but much redder and bigger. Later, Vince was outside feeding the chickens. He came to the door and asked me to grab my camera and come outside. He said there was a bird that looked like a cardinal in the fig tree but his breast area was blue. By the time we got back out there, it was gone. I’m not sure if it was the same bird, or what kind of bird it is.
Then, I was sitting in my chair and looked up and there was an almost solid, bright white dove in the bird bath. Vince had told me the other day he was driving down the driveway and a pair of white doves flew right in front of the car. I wondered if they were really white or just a very light gray. I often see very light gray ones but today was the first time I saw an absolutely white dove here.
I’m sorry I couldn’t get pictures of them but I keep watching for them to come back to the bird bath . . maybe next time!

I love to see the solid white doves, as there are about 4 pairs that hang out in our area. The humming birds are coming back into our area as well. So time to make up their juice and put it out there (that is what my youngest granddaughter calls the nectar).

That is one reason I keep my Iphone on me at all times. Set it by you wehn knitting take to garden onIt takes great photos and you can correct them with Avairy( get that app) if it doesn’t. So Judy and VInce carry your phone and you can get photos of things you would miss other wise. We want to see the birds. How are the bluebirds this year by the way?Take iphone it is easier to carry and use. I’m sure other brands of phones are good at photos too.Keep your phone near you at all times even in the woods. Never know what you might see.

The first time I saw a painted bunting I thought someone had lost their canary. After closer inspection I saw all the colors and looked it up in my bird book. They are beautiful.

Cornell University has a great free app called Merlin Bird ID… I bet your Granddaughter would enjoying using it too. You select the location you saw the bird, select size, colors, etc. and it will give you a picture list to see if you can identify your bird. You can select different regions to download bird data… I use it when I travel.

I hope they come back and you capture them on the digicam. I would love to see either one. We had so many puddles here the other day, and as I drove down the street a robin was having the best time splashing water everywhere!
