I cannot seem to get rid of strep. It had to be a month ago that I was in MO and my throat was hurting, debated about going to the doctor there with no insurance, called one of the “virtual doctor visit” places, got a diagnosis of allergies but within an hour of hanging up from them, I knew I had more than allergies and went to the walk in clinic. It was strep and he gave me antibiotics for 10 days. I think it was the same day I finished the antibiotics or the day after that I went for my annual checkup and the doctor said “Let’s do a strep test just to be sure it’s all cleared up.” It was positive so she gave me a different antibiotic, which I finished while we were in Louisiana, before going to MO. By the time we got back from MO, my throat was hurting a little and I didn’t want to go to another doctor while out of Texas since my insurance wouldn’t pay. We went to Walmart and got elderberry syrup and a couple of other things that were supposed to boost the immune system. That was probably 10 days ago.
Yesterday, my throat seemed more sore, and with another trip to MO, and no insurance while I’m away, I figured I’d better go to the walk in clinic here so I did this morning. The doctor there is a friend and I told him .. I know these two are not related but I may still have strep and I think I have a UTI. Yes . . I have a UTI and the strep test was positive. Another antibiotic for 14 days that should take care of both infections but by the time I finish, it will be a matter of days before Medicare starts so hopefully, I will not have to go to the doctor again while on this insurance.
I don’t feel terrible. The doctor also gave me a shot this morning. He said once I got the shot, I’m no longer contagious. The other doctors told me I wasn’t contagious once I started the antibiotics but since neither of them knocked it out, I wonder if I’ve been contagious the entire time. I surely don’t want to go to Chad’s and give them all strep . . though that’s where I got it . . this is not something you want to “pay back”.
I talked to Nicole and they’re fine with me coming so . . plans are still on for me to go there in a few days.

Just a heads up.
Some people can be carriers and have no symptoms.
Interestingly, dogs can be carriers too.
Just something to talk to your doctor about.
I hope you feel better soon.

Be sure to either eat a generous amount of yogurt or else get started on probiotics immediately. All those antibiotics one after another could lead to C-diff….NOT FUN!!! Ask me how I know!!

I’m going to say the same thing! I’ve had C.diff caused by antibiotics, and you don’t want THAT. Florastor (saccharomyces boulardii) is what helped me after months with C.diff. It’s available over the counter, is expensive, but worth it. I now take it along with any antibiotics I need to take.

Just rest up and take care of yourself. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

Poor Judy! I felt bad that you were sick on your trip, but I had no idea that you have been sick Forever! Third time is the charm?

Strep throat can bring on Rheumatic Fever, which can damage the heart. A year of bed rest to recover from Rheumatic Fever. Hopefully, in this day and age of antibiotics, strep throat doesn’t get that far. Do you take apple cider vinegar? Eat pickles, pickled beets and red onions? Not sure if there is any connection, but you are eating a restricted diet.
Take care of yourself! Safe travels!

Replacing your toothbrush is very important. It can carry the strep virus.

i agree with those recommending probiotics. whenever i start on antibiotics for anything i also take lactobasillas acidopholus (over the counter) or i am sure to get a UTI. it is a vicious cycle that i went thru several times before my current doctor told me about this. hopeful for you!

Strep was hard to control 60 years ago, and I imagine it’s harder now, more antibiotic resistant. My sister had chronic strep, and if she missed her shot on day 30, she was making me sick on day 31! I hope this shot and the 14 days knock it out completely for you.
