Vince’s email got hacked. They sent out emails to different people that said different things. I got one that said something like “Hello. How are you? Please contact me.”
Some people got emails asking for gift cards to Amazon. They wanted Vince’s friends to buy Amazon gift cards, scratch the back and send them a picture of it. Right.
A couple of people started calling Vince and telling him about the emails. Some got it and didn’t call him. He texted a friend and asked her if she got an email asking for a gift card. She said “Yes, but I knew it wasn’t really you because they were asking nicely!”
Vince has changed all his passwords and had to make some changes to his email account. Not sure how it happened . . do we ever really know?

That is horrible for all of us! I tend to believe I am a safe internet user and am very careful and know nothing near what Vince knows about computers. I have noticed that Microsoft has begun this week to flag some of the articles I download.to copy/save for research or ideas. These are non profit or even a newspaper article. Also see television ads with the lady who has someone using her Amazon account. I have reputable safety programs and am very careful. So much work and effort to be safe just gets harder and harder. So sorry for Vince and I guess for him glad has a fun and grumpy manner to let friends know!!

Hackers are the bane of our society!! I often wonder how much good these people could be doing for society, but instead feel that stealing from people is a much more worthy pursuit…. I just don’t get it.

My son does distance learning. Earlier this week he was having problems with his Moodle. Later, the teacher responded to his issue and said they were “warding off a spam attack” at that particular moment and that was why the changes made didn’t save! We wondered why hackers would want to use a high school Law course for their dirty work?! The world has gone crazy!!

Yes, we got an email from Vince, too. The same thing happened to me years ago when Yahoo was breached and millions of names and passwords were compromised, including three of our email accounts. I shudder to think how many scams were sent out from our email addresses–I’m still getting dark web emails trying to blackmail me every day. They claim they know my password and have installed spy software on my computer and have caught me looking at adult sites–which is definitely not true. I recently got a notice from Norton that there was a current breach with client info from a major data compiler–so that may be how they got in to Vince’s email account. Ugh…thieves. They ruin things for everyone.

I had to go to Social Security….and there was an older man there with thousands of dollars worth of cash to pay the Social Security so they would not put him in jail…..he got one of those calls on the phone saying he was going to jail unless he pays…he was crying and shaking. Lucky for him he took the money straight to Social Security and not mailed it somewhere…..I wish they could catch these crooks, but they can’t……

I immediately knew he was hacked. The email said ‘Good Morning. How was your night? Hope to read back from you as soon as you get this mail’. If I knew y’all better, we would have had a good laugh over it.

I guess it’s time to change the passwords….I try to change the key ones every couple months. I have to use a password book (it looks like an address books and I keep it hidden). COming up with new variations are always so much fun!o

I remember when I was a teller at a bank here in town, one of the bank examiners told me “You are only here 8 hours a day, there is someone out there who is trying to think of ways to scam you 24 hours a day.” And he is right, even more so now that everything is world wide!
