Things tend to happen in spurts around here. One minute I am planning or working on one activity and, in a short period of time, I am doing something totally different. Even though I have a plan for balance, the days can get a bit hectic trying to achieve or maintain that balance. The good thing is that there is always some form of visible progress even though, at times, it doesn’t appear any is being made.
You have already read in Judy’s posts, all my getting ready activities paid off. Five drying rack were built, the garlic, which was ready, was harvested and placed on the racks, the automated chicken doors were completed and are working very well and I even tilled up more space in the garden for some additional planting. I would say it was a very productive week. Now it’s time to step back and reassess. I don’t have any “big new projects” on the horizon but I am sure they just haven’t been brought to my attention yet. Of course, I will continue practicing calligraphy, work toward getting the shop organized so I can start some woodturning, maintain the garden, continue to minimize and surf the internet for new ideas. While surfing last week, I found this great post I wanted to share and it can be found here. It contains the following quote, “Competence is knowing the limit of your abilities….” How true is that? The post goes on to explain the Feynman Technique, a formula for learning anything. This post also references a book by Carol Dweck which highlights the importance of mindsets and growth. I struck gold with this finding! There is so much food for thought here and a great topic for further exploration.
My goal this week is pretty simple. I want to rest and regroup a bit. We all need some down time and I believe now is a good time to take a break. Hopefully, even though there might not be a whole lot of activities to report on next week, I will be able to share some new ideas for my next set of adventures, as I work on developing my competence.

Great article, and a reminder of the old adage, “See one, do one, teach one.” It does really work! I learned so much when I taught quilting–I had to fill in the blanks of what I thought I knew to be able to teach confidently. I had forgotten. Now I’m going to apply this principle to something else I’m trying to tackle–thanks for the reminder.

The offer is still there if you need help with the calligraphy or want to borrow my book. It is out of print but it is a very good learning tool! While Judy is away you can rest all you want to!

And I always like this one from Isaac Asimov: “Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.” LOL Gotta remember that when I get mad and hit something with the hammer.
