Yesterday Vince went to the doctor for a routine visit . . his first since starting the diet. He had lost a bit over 43 pounds since his last visit and the nurse asked him if he had stomach surgery – one of those kinds where they reduce the amount you’re able to eat. He told her no . . just cutting carbs and exercising. He said the doctor went on and on about how great he was doing!
Next week he goes to his primary care doctor and they will do the routine blood work. We’re both anxious to see how that goes. I got for my PCP visit not long after I get home. I wish I had gone before I left for Missouri. I’m sure my blood work would have been better.
Today I ate lunch with Addie at school. The teacher said she had been so excited all day because I was coming for lunch. How can you not want to do that every day when it makes them so happy? Lunch was fried chicken patty (with breading on it), mashed potatoes, gravy and corn! To my credit, I did drink water instead of chocolate or strawberry milk but the water was about the only thing I had that was healthy.
Tonight Chad is smoking salmon and I’m having steamed asparagus and broccoli so that will be a healthy meal. It’s hard to eat no carbs when I’m here. I do what I can but I’m not being so strict that I’m not enjoying eating and enjoying things with Addie. There may have been a milkshake consumed one day! 🙂

That’s great news for Vince! My husband has been on the Keto diet for 3 weeks now, but has only lost 6 pounds (although he no longer needs to take his diabetes meds). I wonder what has made such a difference for Vince and you? Any advice?

Every time I get to see the school menus I just marvel at how unhealthy and loaded with carbs they are. I guess the goal is to feed the kids as cheaply as possible, healthy or not.

I feel the same way Linda in NE. I can’t imagine it would be too hard to do green beans instead of corn or even broccoli or some salad. Put a little Ranch dressing on it and kids will eat anything.
My daughter in law and daughter send healthy lunches to school but will let them eat school lunch as a treat on pizza day.

There’s a place here that makes the BEST milkshakes, with real ice cream and they are so thick, it’s either eat with a spoon, or let it melt a while. I usually let it melt. They make about 40 flavors and my favorite is cherry chocolate … and that’s what my son brought home to me when he went to get cat food. How could I not eat that??? Sigh.

Way to go Vince.
