The cedar pollen is about to get the best of me. I don’t know why I had expected it earlier and was optimistic that either we weren’t going to have it this year or I was no longer allergic but it’s here now with a vengeance and I cannot stop sneezing. Even when Vince goes outside and comes backing . . I start sneezing. I’ve used Flonase, Zyrtec, Allegra. Texas Cedar Fever drops. I usually use Zyrtec but after a couple of weeks of it not helping, I switched to Allegra, and it isn’t helping either. There seems to be no relief this year.
Vince and I were talking this morning . . how do you pick a location to live and know there’s not going to be some seasonal allergy that sends you over the edge? In Louisiana and Kentucky, I had seasonal allergies in the Fall but by then, I was ready to stay inside more. Here, I’m so wanting to be outside in the spring and this cedar pollen seems never ending this year.
I’ve reminded Vince several times that I didn’t seem to have allergies in Missouri but that also could be because we lived in town and it may have been different if we had lived out in the country. We know two people who lived near where we live who sold their places and moved to town because of cedar pollen allergies and they’re fine in town. I suppose I’ll take a couple of months of allergies before I could live in town.
For now, I’ll just keep sneezing my head off, rubbing my itchy eyes and blowing my nose non-stop!

I’ve tried all of the real allergy medications and the only thing that helps mine is Advil Cold and Sinus. Don’t know why, but that’s what works, so that’s what I take when my allergies go crazy. If nothing else is working and you can tolerate the Advil in it, give it a try!

My advice from a years long Texas allergy sufferer is add Zaditor eye drops—one drop in each eye as soon as you get up each morning (or for sure before stepping one foot outside) and another drop before you go to bed. My ophthalmologist recommended it and it’s great. I finally took allergy shots for a year to calm my allergies down—I was up to double and triple doses of Flonase and Allegra—dr’s orders. I’m much better 2 years now later. (I just gave them myself as going in to office 2-3 times a week not gonna happen. It was no different than sticking myself with a quilting pin!) (get Zaditor at Walmart)

Just curious – do you and Vince take a quick shower/rinsing your hair before you go to bed? Some people shower in the morning and others shower in the evening.
During pollen season when I work in the yard, I come in from the outside, take my garden clothes off in the laundry area, and take a quick rinse to get the pollen off my body & hair. It helps since I am not breathing in pollen from my pillow. Some days, I’ll still rinse my hair just from being in and out of the house. I usually start doing this when I see the green-yellow stuff on everything!
I’m not severely allergic to the pollen, yet, but I do notice some slight reaction during this time.

The allergens (at least the ones I react to) are high here too. I sound like I have a cold (gravely voice), but it is just allergies. I also have asthma, so I’m on allergy/asthma meds, nasacort, and an inhaler. At this time of year, nothing solves it all, though. 🙁 I had allergy testing done a couple of years ago, and I reacted the most to cedar and maple. Unfortunately, I can’t really make everyone cut down their maple trees. I do get tired of telling people I’m fine–it’s just allergies. I feel like a broken record.

Try using the D products for 5-10 days. That usually gets me well. Also try drinking Pineapple juice or eating fresh pineapple. The bromeliad in the pineapple will stop the congestion quickly. This is from Dr. Nelle who has no degree in medicine!

I’m thinking fire up the chainsaw and go looking for cedar trees.

You might try putting DayClear allergy relief in your rotation.. its a clear liquid and just half a dose worked wonders for me.. They sell it on amazon and in some drug stores.

I used to suffer from allergies year round. I took a minimum of two prescribed allergy pills a day. A few triips to a knesiologist took care of my air-related allergies. Don’t ask me how he did it, but it worked.

The only one that helps us is generic Claritin (Loratadine, I probably spelled that wrong). I tried the nasal spray allergy stuff last year and it was a joke. Good luck Judy, hope you’re feeling better soon!

Being a life long allergy sufferer, from everything between mold and pollen, or maybe just breathing air, I feel your pain. I’m sure you’ve tried everything there is. I rely on chlorpheniramine and add benadryl when I have to, along with Opticon-A eye drops, recommended by the doctor. In rough times, that does it mostly, sometimes I have to an an extra of one of the pills, and the rest of the year a Chinese herbal liquid called White Flower rubbed under my nose several times a day keeps me breathing nicely. It’s available at most Asian stores or on Amazon, but don’t order it from China, or you wait a very long time for delivery!
