My guess is that about 90% of the time I start a new project, I end up knitting with the tail. I say to myself that I’m going to pay extra attention and not do that and I almost always do it.
Started the new project (skogafjall) this afternoon and it didn’t take but about three rows in and I had done it again. Hopefully, that’s the only mistake I’ll make on this project but somehow, I’m betting there will be a few more.

I thought I was the only one to do this!! Let me know if you figure out a way to avoid it!!

maybe a clip (paper clip, small clothes pin, etc — even a piece of sticky paper wrapped around) on the tail until you get far enough into the knitting to have it out of the way?
Amy in PA says
I take the tail and loop it over itself and tie a very loose knot so it looks like a little noose. That stays out of my way and it can easily be untied to weave in later.

Used to tie my tails in a “butterfly” and let it hang off my knitting needle. I hardly ever used it, so now I just trim my tails to about 6-8 inches and knit on. It’s too short to reach and knit with by mistake.

I fold the ends over and over, then tie a slip knot. It is a nice visual that I am working on the right side. Sometimes I use it in sewing pieces together. I can see the value, though, in just cutting it to 6″. Glad for your observations, Judy, and the comments from other readers!

But there’ a badge for that! 🙂

Yes! And every year I say . . I’m not getting that one! I don’t think I’ve ever got the Yarn Chicken badge either.
