Here we are at the end of Week 3. There are so many videos, documents, apps . . it’s such an easy diet to follow and once we accepted that sugar is something we should say away from, and we realized the health benefits, the desire to stray from the recommended eating plan is no longer there. I’m not saying I don’t want a Dr. Pepper but it’s almost like one of those things that would be fun . . but not worth the consequences.
Energy Levels
I’ve already mentioned how much energy Vince has. It’s almost to the point of being a miracle, seriously. But I also have more energy. I’ve always been the one who had too much energy but lately, I had been sluggish. I blamed it on my knee but now I believe it had more to do with the carbs and extra weight that were dragging me down. Yesterday I went out and worked in the garden for a good 2 hours. I came in and yes, my knee was hurting and I meant to take aspirins and never did. By the time I went to bed last night, it was hurting less than normal. I’m back to my old “stay up half the night” routine. I have never been one to need much sleep but I had been sleeping more and more. Now I’m back to getting 6 hours of sleep and feeling great. That seems to be about what my body needs.
Blood Results
We check blood glucose, blood ketones and blood pressure daily. Vince’s blood glucose has come down into healthier ranges and his blood pressure is almost to the point where his doctor has said he could reduce some of his meds. His ketone levels continue to indicate he is in ketosis.
My glood gucose stayed between 90 and 100. Now it stays between 70 and 80. My blood pressure has never been a problem but it’s down too and the average for last week was 114/73. My ketone level goes anywhere from 2.5 to 4.1. I’d like to keep it between 2 and 3. Anything above 3 is more ketones than I need to be producing.
Weight
Here’s what you really wanted to know, right? Vince has lost 23 pounds. That’s in three weeks! I’ve lost almost 14 pounds. I’m thrilled with both our results. I know men lose faster. Vince has way more to lose than I have and actually, he’s getting more exercise than I’m getting. These initial pounds came off easy. We’ll settle in to about 2 or 3 pounds per week soon but as long as we’re feeling good and losing some amount, we’re happy.
One of the things this diet is touted for accomplishing is causing a reduction in inflammation. Most everything I read said it would take about three weeks. My knee pain is better . . getting 13 pounds off helped I’m sure but I can’t say there’s been a great improvement. Of course, who really expects a diet to cure a bum knee except for getting some of the weight off it.
We’ll keep on . . and hopefully have another good report next week.

That’s all such great news, Judy. I’m so happy that it’s working so well for you!!!

Wow! You are both doing so good! Wish I had your willpower…and a husband who would eat that way. He is a very picky eater and is really hard to plan meals for without carbs. He eats very few vegetables or fruits and loves sweets.

That’s wonderful, for both of you! Yay, you! This is doing you a world of good already.
