I love doing test knits. I love the challenge of having to get something done by a deadline. The test knits are always finished on time so that means I’m not starting a dozen more things before the first one is finished.
While I can’t tell you much about the new test knit, I can tell you that it’s a shawl and it uses three colors of yarn. I would consider two of the colors to be main colors and the third to be an accent.
I woke up this morning before 5 a.m. and couldn’t stop thinking about which yarns I’d use so I crept quietly out of bed, went to the sewing room and began digging for yarn.
Here’s what I came up with:
Option 1:
Of course, my go to color is going to be pink/purple these days. The dark purple on the right would be the pop color.
Option #2:
I like this combo too and if I were giving this away, and many are my shawls are gifted, this might be one more people would wear. I think the middle color would be the pop color.
Option #3:
Another neutral-ish and probably one most people would wear. The color on the right would be the pop color. This combo might be a bit boring.
Option #4:
Something screams NO but I love purple and green together. Sometimes, it’s those colors you think won’t go together that really do look good together. I put these skeins back in their bin a couple of times but kept going back to them.
Will you please leave a comment and tell me which color combination you would be more likely to wear? You can just say 1, 2, 3 or 4 or you can elaborate on why you feel the way you feel. No need to tell me the purple is too bright or the colors blend to much . . it’s going to be one of these four. I’m not digging through yarn tubs again today.
Thank you for your help!
By the way, this is one of those times when I’m extremely thankful for the stash. If I wanted to keep digging, I could come up with a dozen or more combinations. It would be super nice to have a yarn shop nearby so I could just run there and pick the yarns but I’ve never lived near a great yarn shop and probably never will.

Judy, I love option 1, but I also have been leaning towards purples and pinks for the last few months and haven’t wanted to go with the “safe options”! I just ordered the SSYC kit with the mug and purple/ink yarn because I fell in love with it and I very rarely order yarn! I was a little disappointed that it was much mostly purple and very little pink when it arrived, but it’s still beautiful! I like option 2 as well, I think they would be pretty together. The other options are pretty, but I love 1 and 2 the most!

Tough one – I like them all but thinking of the colors I normally wear I think 2 & 4 would work best. I especially like 4.

1,4,2,3. Purple has been my favorite color ever. My bridesmaid wore royal purple 49 years ago !

#1, followed by #3. Beautiful! Again, as usual. Your yarn stash is as much fun and comforting as my fabric stash! I love creeping out of bed early. It just doesn’t happen very often!
QuilterBea says
I would love to wear any of them, but I like #4
Laura says
#2 or #4.
Joyce says
My first instinct is #1 because I’m a purple girl, but there is something about #4 that I’m drawn to. (I guess I’m not a lot of help!) LOL
Liz says
#2 or #4 if the green was a bit brighter.
Amy in PA says
#4 is great!

#1….Happy, happy colors! Perfect for early spring, Easter, cool summer nights.

I love all of them…..but my choice would be #1!!! (#2 would be a close runner up)
Tina in NJ says
I like option number 4. I think they go really well together.

If I were making it for me – definitely #2 – those are exactly my colors that I wear a lot. The first one screams “Judy colors” to me (I’m just not a pink person myself) and #3 – is that resin on the right – that’s one of my favorite colors (sadly discontinued) but I have a bit of it hoarded in my stash.
Dottie says
#1 – love purples and since this is February, amethyst is the gem for the month, as well as violet for the flower 🙂
Teri says
#2 is my favorite, but those are my colors…. I also like #4…..
Sandir says
#3 , followed by #4
Sue Edberg says
#3 is my first choice with #2 my second choice.
Rebecca in SoCal says
Number 3, especially if that’s a burgundy more than a brown.
On combination 2, I would think that gold would be the “pop” color!
Marcille says
#2, I just love this color combination
Sharon Decker says
I’ve always thought purple and green were great together. I pick #4.
Nelle Coursey says
I like #2 and #4. #2 because I think it will go with a lot of colors. #4 because I love the mix and think it would turn out beautiful once it is finished. And I think it would go with a lot of different colors as well. You know me though, I like #’s 1, 2, 3, and 4!! Of course you probably have an idea who you want to have your shawl (unless you keep it) so you will know what colors she likes.
Mary Ann says
Your combos are all beautiful. #4 speaks to me, a combo I would definitely wear.
Cheryl says
Love purples!!
Sherry says
#4 Love that purple!
ethelann wood says
Hi from ethelann, 2 is the combination I would usually wear but #4 is really drawing me to it. I hope you do this one so I can see it finished.

No opinion on the yarn choices. But if you ever find yourself in Round Rock, visit A Sheep At the Wheel. Nice shop and super friendly nice owner. Visited while in town this weekend. Wish I was close enough for classes. Lovely yarns! Owner was kind enough to give me a lesson on how to use my swift. And I’m 200 miles away.

4, 2, 3, 1 – I don’t think you’d have trouble giving any of them away.
