When I’m at Chad’s, in a little, bitty, kinda backwoodsy type town, they get priority mail packages delivered on Sunday. The first time I saw the mail man out on Sunday, I just knew I had my days mixed up, as usual, but Nicole assured me they do delivery priority mail on Sunday.
Yesterday was a postal holiday . . no mail. Last night, I decided to check the tracking on my Eat, Sleep, Knit package because I had no idea what day it might arrive. It was already after dark.
Me: I have to got to the mail box.
Vince: No! It’s a holiday. There’s no mail.
Me: There is . . a package got delivered.
Vince: No! It’s wrong.
Me: I don’t think so.
Vince: I’ll go to the mail box!
Me: No. I’ll go to the mail box.
Vince: It’s ok. I know it’s yarn. I’ll go!
So, he did and my Eat, Sleep, Knit box was delivered on a postal holiday.
I was happy to get it but then I was kinda sad for the postal employees who had to work on a postal holiday. Seriously, everyone not in government had to work but . . still. I know . . technically, USPS isn’t a government job. But, when most of the post office is closed, who wants to be working . . driving all the way out here to deliver yarn?
OK . . the happiness overruled the sadness. I’m happy to have my yarn. I’ll take pictures and share later today . . or tomorrow . . or Wednesday. 🙂

I was working on Monday and was shocked to see the mailman come in to deliver a package. The ironic thing is that he had to walk past our outgoing mail and leave it there just so he can come back on Tuesday and pick it up. I wonder if they got holiday pay for working on Monday… That would make up for working on the holiday!

Trust me – if they get holiday pay they don’t mind. And it might be voluntary to work holidays too. Not sure. I could ask my neighbor but I don’t see him much to talk to him.

When I had a part time job that had great pay for working OT plus have a weekly pay that was in a school paycheck. I could make more in a 24 hr shift than I did for a working a full day teaching.

I worked most holidays most of my life as a nurse, and I don’t feel bad for folks who have to work on holidays! Most of them are making a LOT of money doing that.
I also don’t feel the need for Sunday delivery, heck it wouldn’t bother me if they cut out Saturday delivery.
When I moved out here in the middle of nowhere, we only got UPS delivery once a week and Fedex only came every 10 days or 2 weeks. So five day a week delivery is great for me! 🙂

I always think, “Who’s in that much of a hurry?” =)
