There are some places I just will not go this time of year. Walmart! When I’m visiting Chad, I will have to go there because there’s no other place to go but for groceries, when I’m here, I do not have to go to Walmart.
Yesterday morning, just 1-1/2 hour before the Georgia Tech game, Vince decided we needed to run to town. I said “Oh, good! I need milk and eggnog.” He said “We’ll run by Walmart!” Oh, no we won’t! I explained to him that from before Thanksgiving til after January 1, I do not go to Walmart unless there’s something I have to have and nowhere else in town has it. Cost is not an issue this time of year. I’d buy it at the In and Out Mart before I’d go to Walmart.
I told him I’d be happy to go to United but I was not going to Walmart. We ran in United . . by now, he’s counting down the minutes til the game starts. United only had one brand of eggnog and it’s the brand we don’t like. I said “We can run by Brookshires!” No . . we don’t have time. We’ll go to Walmart. I said “I’ll sit in the car.” We drove up to the parking lot . . it was pretty full. Vince said “See . . I told you it wouldn’t be crowded!” That’s like me saying “I’m not buying yarn” when it’s arriving every day. Because he wants Walmart not to be crowded, he is sure it isn’t crowded.
I sat in the car while he went in and got eggnog. He said they were out too but there was a lady putting more milk in the cooler and he asked her to check for eggnog and they had more.
If, on the day after Black Friday, I find myself begging not to have to go to Walmart, it’s going to be a long Christmas season around here.

Hooray! I’m not the only person who sits at home and refusing to go to WM. I will after school starts in January and life returns to normal. The freezer, refrigerator and pantry is well stocked. I can guarantee hubby will need to go and will come back saying, “Never again!” He forgets from year to year.

I’m the same way. Except now I order from Walmart online and have it delivered. Everything else is bought from the grocery store or drug store.

There is Wood’s in West end of Nevada. I don’t to to Wal Mart unless I have to..

I will go to Woods for a few things but they’re outrageously expensive. Overall, the grocery prices there are way more than we pay here so Woods’ prices seem super high to me. Even in Walmart, most of the prices are higher than we pay here.

Assuming you have a regular size WM and not the neighborhood size? I’ve been in WM 3 times this week (big one and once was Wed! YIKES). Does yours have a garden center with a register there? I usually park down there, got to opposite end of store for groceries and check out by garden center. Hardly ever anyone there!! HA

We have both the regular WM and a Walmart Neighborhood Market. I also try really hard not to go to the big WM from Thanksgiving through Christmas. After going to Schnucks (our local grocery store) and spending way more than I would like, I decided I would try to get as much as possible at Aldi’s and the Neighborhood Market. I’m tired of the long lines at the regular Walmart since they took out so many of the regular checkout lines. I do NOT like the “self check” option. They’ve made other changes that irritate me too.
Judy Laquidara says
I love the self check! At our store, we’re having to wait for self check registers and there haven’t been lines at the registers manned by checkers.

I find if we go to Wal Mart early Sunday morning there is not much of a crowd. Everyone is polite, kind and has patience. So that is when we go… Otherwise during the week we stay out of Wal Mart from Thanksgiving to Jan 2.

I almost never go to Walmart at all. I don’t like it, and I have options. They built a neighborhood market about 2 miles from me, and we have a Super Walmart about 5 miles away, so that seemed silly. I think I’ve been in the neighborhood one about 3 times in a year, for a gallon of milk. I took someone to pick up meds the other day, and it wasn’t too bad, but everyone was already grumpy. I much prefer our Aldi on a crowded day, and it’s a little one.

I didn’t have the necessary items for making my pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving Day (and I thought I checked my pantry), so guess who was going to our 24/7 WM that morning! Yep, me. It was not too bad, and I was surprised they were open on Turkey Day.
