Denise and I were chatting this morning and she said she wants to get more sweaters done in 2019 and I was telling her that I want to also. Then we came up with the idea of challenging ourselves to make 12 sweaters next year. I feel like I knitted a lot in 2018 but I don’t feel like I accomplished as much as I have in previous years.
Here’s what I finished in 2018:
- 16 pairs of socks
- 4 hats
- 7 shawls
- 3 cowls
- 1 sweater
The one sweater was Sunset Highway and most of that was done in 2018. I still hope to get Addie’s unicorn sweater finished before I go there in a few weeks.
I’m making a list of the sweaters I really want to make and all of these have yarn already. I will go back and prioritize and decide which 12 are my top 12 and maybe make a plan for the others . . somehow, some time. Often I’m asked if I wear my knitted things much here. I do! Sweaters are good for us, often from October through March. We rarely need a heavy coat . . though listening to the wind howling outside makes me think today is a good day for a coat. It’s going to get below freezing tonight so I went out and set the heater to come on about 11 p.m. and I did wear a coat when I was out. The first half of the sweet potato pie filling may be done tonight so I’ll be outside vacuum sealing those jars (the vacuum sealer Vince made is on a table under the carport). I’ll definitely be wearing a coat since all that will be happening around 10 p.m.
Here’s a list of 22 sweaters I want to make. Maybe in the next day or so, I’ll prioritize the list.
- Rhapsody in Cables – Started .. maybe just cast on and nothing more.
- Bronwyn – I have the yarn. This might be near the top of my list next year.
- Aileas – Maybe because I just found this one yesterday but I really wanted to cast on for this one last night so I’m pretty sure it will make the list for 2019.
- Aki Cardigan – This one will be a good one to work on when Vince is talking to me. It should be pretty easy.
- Rye – This has been in my library since 2015. I have yarn for it. I still like it and want to make it.
- The Weekender – This will probably make the 2019 list.
- Hanne – I want a basic cardigan (in every color). I’m going to try this one and see how it works. Supposedly, I can make it work in whatever weight yarn I want to use.
- It Takes a Guild – I keep thinking about this sweater and watching everyone else’s progress.
- Corstorphine – I actually have yarn to make a child and adult version of this sweater. Maybe I’ll make it for Nicole and Addie, or for Addie and me.
- The Throwback – I really want to make this.
- Vinterfjell – Another one I want to make.
- Skogafjell – Another colorwork pullover.
- Nor’easter – There was an older version of this that I wanted to make for years but I’ll make this newer, improved version.
- Fern & Feather – I’ve carried this one back and forth to MO several times thinking I’d have time to start it and haven’t yet.
- Raspberry Delight – Love these cables.
- Basic Raglan Pullover – Another perfect go anywhere type sweater.
- Hollywood Hoodie – This looks pretty mindless and useful. My yarn is purple so this one may make the list.
- Sunshine Coast – The yarn I have for this one is the Blue Sky Woolstok that I used for Addie’s reindeer hat and I loved working with it.
- Traveler’s End – This is another one that I love the yarn I have chosen – Madelinetosh Chunky in Badlands.
- Throwback Thursday – A new pattern that I like and have yarn I could use.
- Elton – This looks like a good summer sweater. Of course, it’s never cool here in the summer but restaurants and buildings are often chilly.
- Strange Brew – I really want to make something from the Strange Brew book.
For now, I’m going to try to get Addie’s unicorn sweater finished. If anyone wants to join in and commit to making 12 of anything next year, we’d be glad to have others playing along with us.

I could easily need encouragement on finishing 12 quilts before the 2020 ball strikes. Several, ok many, are in various forms of nearing a finish. Some just need borders, many need quilting and some hand sewing the binding to the back.

I started a basic pullover sweater s couple of days ago. So far I’ve got about an inch of ribbing done. At that rate I may finish by the end of next year. LOL

I envy you for being able to do this! I can’t even seem to finish Pat’s socks!! LOL I don’t knit that fast either! But you do and I say go for it! Don’t forget the cardigan we are doing in January.

I might make a list of quilts/UFOs, and it would probably have at least 12 on it. I discovered I really can’t crochet a lot when I did it on the way to and from Nauvoo in October. That was several hours, a week apart, and my wrist was sore for a week! A nice little yarn shop was discovered not too far from me, and they offer lessons, even personalized ones, but I don’t know if the motion of the wrists is different enough from crochet to give it a go or not … and then I’d start stashing yarn, and I can’t really afford the money or the space for that!
And what about your other sweater that you put the arms on, and it was Lindon or something like that? Doesn’t that count as a finish?

Judy, thank you for posting mostly pullovers as I generally don’t knit those! 🙂 There are a couple here that are very enticing, but I think I’m going to hope to knit one sweater (Floozy) that uses slipped stitches to make colorwork. Of course, I need to learn how to do that first! I love your ambition and finishes every year. If we don’t shoot for the stars, we’ll never get there! Thank you for that.

Some of the pullovers will be made into cardigans so you may not be off the hook yet! 🙂

You are way out of my league. But lately I have been getting the urge to do a sweater. But have decided it will have to wait until after I retire next year, and we move. But I am thinking of buying a couple of the sweater patterns I have seen in the GAL: Belmont Top Down Coat #117; Ethos; Featherfall Cardigan; Morning Breeze; Sinistram; Cold Spring (my favorite of all); and Down Home. There are some gorgeous ones there but way out of my league.

I don’t think I could realistically finish 12 quilts in 2019 – unless they were all baby quilts. Still working full time. I think I’ll make a list of 12 quilts and other sewing projects anyway, and see if it helps me focus on completing as many as I can in 2019.

I’ll join in – mine will probably be a combination of knitting and quilting. I’m getting the urge to sew/quilt again and I have a few quilts that just need binding and a couple that still have to be quilted. Plus numerous knitting projects on my wish list – sweaters as well as shawls, hats socks etc.

You have some wonderful selections! I think the only problem with your list will be cutting it down to only 12!
