I’m always kinda halfway watching for coincidences or things that are kinda weird.`
I know I said I didn’t want to buy a house in Nevada, MO but I keep looking at the new listings and here’s a reason why we do need to buy there. Nicole called and said Addie’s day care is going to be closed from Christmas til January 3. She asked if I wanted to come stay with her. Of course! But . . there’s the problem we have . . if Vince comes, we have to bring Rita. They have a big dog and Rita is not friendly with other dogs. Poor Speck wouldn’t hurt her and it might do her good to have a nice dog that teaches her it’s ok to be around other dogs. The last dog she tangled with was my uncle’s step-dog and she’s part chihuahua and dachshund so she definitely stood her ground. We were lucky we got to them before there was blood.
Staying about two weeks at their house would be too much . . probably even without Rita, but we won’t board her.
We can stay at a VRBO cabin or at a hotel that allows dogs. The hotel room is probably bigger than the little cabin, except it does have a kitchen. I think staying in it for two weeks might be a little cramped but eating out for two weeks would definitely not work well. Either way, it’s right at $2,500 for two weeks. It doesn’t take many of those kinds of trips til buying a house is worth the investment . . especially if you’re ONLY looking at it from the cost angle. And, if you had your own house, you could cook every meal at home, leave an Instant Pot and air fryer there, and leave the basics – spices, canned tomatoes, etc.
So, I was back looking at houses on the market. Remember I was really torn about those condo things that were like duplexes but had one shared wall? We decided not to do that. There were two of them listed and it looks like both of them have sold. There were also a few single unit houses down the road. They’re small but they also have the homeowners association that takes care of snow removal, trash and lawn maintenance. None of those were for sale. When I looked at the new listings Thursday, there was one for sale but it was on a different street . . a street I like better. And the street number was Chad’s birthday. I noticed that first and I said “Vince, this is a sign!” He didn’t get excited. Then I saw it was part that HOA where you don’t have to deal with the yard (and therefore, I wouldn’t have to worry about the red tag man!). He still said no. I told Nicole that when I come to keep Addie, I’m going to look at it .. except, it sold on the 2nd day it was listed.
As it stands now, Vince does not want to pay $2,500 to stay in a cabin or a hotel so I’m going back by myself.
The other thing . . when we left MO to move here, our dental hygienist took our chickens. We’ve been talking about getting rid of our chickens. My hygienist here has chickens. I was telling her the other day that we were thinking about getting rid of ours. She said “If you want to get rid of them, I’ll take them.” How weird is that . . give our chickens away twice to two different hygienists?
I asked Vince this morning . . If we get rid of the chickens, and we’re still living here and Addie is 10 or 12 and not so interested in spending time with me, can I get chickens again? He said yes. I still can’t think about getting rid of them without crying . . I really do love my chickens. But, I also realize that it’s very hard for us to go anywhere together while we have chickens. We’re going to talk about it again after the first of the year.

I was also thinking about the extended hotels that rent by the week that have built in kitchens and dishes. i didn’t think they were that expensive for 2 weeks. Hope you find something.
