I use a fair amount of dill and can easily keep it going in the greenhouse through the winter. I bought three small pots of dill a couple of months ago. Before I left for Missouri, I said to Vince “Please don’t forget to water the plants!” There aren’t many pot plants this year. Apparently the dill, which is still in the little plastic or paper cups, kept falling over so he set it in a container and then it rained 13″ in two weeks and the dill about drowned. With all the rain, he didn’t need to go out and water the plants and he must have forgotten that the dill was in the container and drowning.
Just before I got home, he discovered it and it didn’t look so good so he set it out at the edge of the driveway to get some sun. I noticed that it looked pretty sad but I knew he was trying to care for all the the things I left behind so I didn’t say anything. I doubted if the dill was going to make it.
Monday morning we had a delivery. I went out to get the package and my dill had been run over. It wasn’t the driver’s fault. It was sitting in the driveway.
If I want dill this winter, I think I’d better try to find a couple of new plants. These three have had a rough life and probably, an untimely demise!

dill is quite easy to grow from seeds

It is but I actually need some for tomorrow so while I’m in town, I’ll look for a couple more plants and once I have those, I won’t need more til spring.

That is a sad dill tale!

Looks to me like they still have some life in them! LOL
Judy Laquidara says
I’ll work on them tomorrow and see if I can save them. I was thinking it would be easier to start over but I couldn’t find any in town today. I’ll run by the garden center in Abilene when I’m there Monday and see what I see.

What a dill!

I plant dill in the spring, and before I can turn around there are caterpillars on it. I have to be sure to plant enough to share! They make beautiful butterflies, and I’m not against sharing – but when I know the caterpillars are tiny, I avoid cutting dill so that I don’t accidentally kill any caterpillars. Then when the caterpillars are done with it, the heat takes over and then the dill is gone. But it’s worth it! I cut off the flower buds before they go to seed in order to prolong the plants, but it’s still a short season down here in this heat! I hope you can enjoy yours for a long time!
