In my opinion, all cats are weird but Cat seems to be super weird. Remember that she used to love me and had zero use for Vince. Now, she’s so in love with Vince. She sits outside the door and waits for him . . all day! He cannot walk. He has to stop every two steps and pet her. He said she purrs and he’s never heard her do that before.
She’s gotten so fat. Vince thinks she’s pregnant. She isn’t. She’s been around about four years, her ear is tipped (indicating she was part of a catch and release program and was spayed). If she hasn’t had kittens in four years, she isn’t having kittens but . . I’m pretty sure she’s been spayed. Vince said “Oh, it would be so cute to have kittens!” I explained that six kittens now means 60 kittens by this time next year. I’m not sure if Cat’s kittens would be friendly with us so we could catch them and take them to be “fixed” but . . I think she’s just fat and lazy.
Then Vince said . . I think she wants to come inside. Hmmm . . NO! Boots is the sweetest cat ever and he isn’t coming inside the house. No way that hissing cat is coming inside our house.
Two years ago, he ordered this heated kitty house. She doesn’t like it . . probably has never been in it.
Last year Vince set up a heat light for her. It was supposed to keep her warm and keep her water from freezing but in that photo, I can see that the water is frozen. We have several water cans so we empty them all but one, and we can fill up a new one. Most winters, it doesn’t stay below freezing for more than a few days so the water isn’t an issue but Vince is worried about keeping Cat warm.
In my opinion, she’s a feral cat. She’s lived for years without a heated house but, the softer side of me says “she has a heated house”. If she chooses not to go inside, that’s her problem but no . . Vince has found a heated pad for cats and he’s ordering it and he’s going to build her a house that he thinks she will like.
I suppose with him doing all that, I can forget about ever being her favorite adult!

The house might be to little for her. Maybe make a bigger one out of a cardboard box. Then put something inside that has VInce’s smell on it like a used towel before you wash it.Turn it going another direction seeing what is coming is a big deal to cats. They watch even with their eyes closed. Our roaming fixed male cat( George) is getting fat to right now. Just think it is the way they are getting closer to winter being outside cats. He has gone from 9 lbs. to 15 in less than one month. She will lose it again next spring just watch and see.But you are right they are their own creature and noting else like them other than big cats in the wild. Like you one day then don’t the next .

We have the heated pad for our outdoor cat on our covered back porch. She doesn’t go in there until it is really cold, then she loves it. The pad is inside a crate I padded for insulation. But I heard of someone using an igloo cooler. They cut an opening in the end. We are in Fort Worth. She will be fine outside, through our kind of snow and ice.

Feral cats are so funny!! Your Cat may or may not like a heated pad – there’s no telling until you try it. Our feral cat lives under our back porch and won’t let us anywhere near him…been that way since he moved in. I keep hoping he’ll help cut down the mole population that’s ruining our yard, but just yesterday I saw him take off after a pine squirrel in the back yard! So funny, but he missed. I’m hoping he catches them all soon. They eat all my birdseed I put out and the birds won’t go near the feeder when they’re there. Even with 4 feeders I have squirrels enough that all the feeders can be emptied at the same time….And then what the squirrels leave, the deer come in and finish up!! Never a dull moment!! 🙂

I have a 24 pound tuxedo (black and white) cat that just showed up one day and moved in. He was all beat up, so I took him to the vet– $450.00 dollars later and 4 years he is still here. Every 6 weeks I have to take him to the vet for a skin shot ($65.00) and monthly he get nextguard, a flee control med… what we do for our children, thats fur children.

Sometimes it isn’t good. I want to bring home every animal I see. Those days when they have them at various businesses from the shelter . . trying to find homes for them, I usually leave in tears. Thank goodness Vince is the voice of reason when it comes to adding animals.

Its a wonderful thing you are doing for Cat errr I mean Vince is doing for Cat. You still have Boots who loves you unconditionally.
I looked at the heating pad; my daughter has 2 adult Great Danes and that would be nice for them the winter. So I sent her the site .. Thank you !

In this post, Vince doesn’t sound like the voice of reason. LOL Cats are definitely different.

She may not like the one he builds for her either! LOL She may come back around and like you again. Time will tell.

Wish I had known about that heating pad at Rural King when we had our 3 feral cats. There is a RK just up the road from us. We eventually “let them into our warmer garage, then on the sunporch “only”, and you guessed it…. into our first floor house. Eventually all of them died of old age or a sickness, so now we are without any fur babies. It is not easy parting with them.
