Yesterday after I picked Addie up, we ran by the fairly small grocery store here in town to buy popcorn. There’s a Walmart and there’s a small, local grocery store. I like their deli and they have the best fried chicken in town. It’s about the only place I shopped when we lived here. In fact, Chad worked there when we first moved here.
Addie and I were in the store, kinda in a hurry because Nicole would be home soon and I hadn’t told her we were stopping at the store and I knew she would be surprised we weren’t home yet. Addie always wants a quarter to put in those vending machines in the grocery store entrance. When I went to check out, I handed her a quarter. There was a hole in the countertop and while I was paying, she was pretending she was dropping her quarter in the hole. I told her . . if you drop it, it’s your loss because it’s your quarter now and I’m not giving you another one.
The checkout girl and the guy bagging our groceries were very friendly – not overly chatty but friendly. The guy, obviously a high school kid, said “I may have a quarter.” I said “Oh, she didn’t drop it — she’s just pretending. He proceeded to pull out his wallet (I didn’t know guys kept change in their wallets) and he said “Oh, I have two quarters!” and handed them both to Addie. I said “Hey! I’ll take dollars and credit cards.” He kinda flashed his open wallet at me and laughed and said “I have neither!”
It almost brought me to tears that this guy gave away what was probably his last two quarters. What a generous heart he has! I did get his name and I’m going to do something for him. What I really want to do is call his mother and tell her what a sweet son she has!
No doubt he thought he was making a little girl happy with two extra quarters to spend but he did more for this grandmother than he’ll ever know!

And just when you begin to think that this country is going to he** in a handbasket, something like this happens to restore your faith in humanity. 🙂 Made me smile.

Exactly my thoughts as I read this. I’m so depressed by everything right now. Hearing more stories like this might change my outlook

Yep restores ones faith in humanity. I stopped watching the news because its so depressing with all the throwing people under the bus in politics and the violence.. We need more like that young gentleman in this world.

I’m blessed to know a community of young people who are like that, and I was so happy to read this touching story and see you found one, too. What a sweetheart with a sense of humor!

These are the kind of stories I would rather see on the news than all the violence they report.
