These last couple of weeks I’ve had time to catch up on some podcasts. I’ve probably watched two or three or more each day, and I don’t know if it’s a trend or if the podcasts I’m seeing are having this particular content but so much of what I’ve seen has been Norwegian type color work and more rustic style wool. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “it isn’t cashmere” when the podcaster was talking about the rustic wools. I’m not totally familiar with them but they’re definitely not buttery soft. Some are scratchy, some are really scratchy. One podcaster said that for many years, she wondered why people used the rustic wools and now, that’s all she wants to use. I am not to the point of where that’s all I want to use but I definitely want to try something because the normal soft wools I’ve been using.
There’s probably not a chance I’ll ever lose interest in the softer wools but I think what I buy in the future will be totally different from what I’ve been buying.
There are several yarns I’ve ordered that will arrive in the next few weeks. Many of the true Norwegian color work type wools that I’m calling rustic are not available at the yarn shops I’ve been patronizing. Some come from Europe, but some shops in the U.S. are starting to get them and they seem to be more popular in Canada. I suppose for one thing, they’re warmer . . which definitely is a consideration that should not be factoring in whether I like them or not.
It’s funny and interesting that most of us think of wool . . just wool. You can see on this list, probably a partial list, of some of the different types of sheep. Many of the different wools have different properties and then the different milling processes can make those wools behave differently. It’s very interesting and something I never thought much about.
As my new and “different” wools arrive, I’ll share photos and as I knit with them, I’ll point out which ones are new to me and share my thoughts about them. Just consider that I’m buying these new yarns to help enlighten my readers! 🙂
Vince called today and said “I’m sure there’s been some kind of mix up because a box of yarn arrived today.” Nope . . not a mix up and there may be several more boxes arrive before I get home and several more after I get home.

Perhaps you should have left instructions with Rita to intercept all packages before Vince sees them. LOL

I fell down a rabbit hole this week too… dying bare yarn and wool flannel for wool appliqué. Have to wait for more dye(and yarn and flannel!) since I only had two colors of dye on hand , but i have been obsessed with finding blogs and videos on YouTube for the last 5 days! So looking forward to really diving in when my orders get here. Since my birthday is in the next 2 weeks I told my hubby I would order my own present(s)! 🙂

And what happened to all those YouTubes you were watching with that one lady you said you weren’t going to mention any more? =)

Suzanne Bryan. That is so ongoing and takes calculating and keeping up with the measurements, I figured that was a good project to hold off on starting til I get home.
