We lived here 4-1/2 years and I never even saw the high school or knew where it was but now that Addie is in school and joined the little junior cheerleaders, we’re all Tiger fans!
Nicole ordered school T-shirts for all of us so this morning when we got ready to go to Walmart, we all went in our Tiger t-shirts.
On our way to Walmart and on our way back, we drove up and down streets looking for maybe a “for sale by owner” sign but didn’t see one at all. I think it’s rare to find a house for sale by owner around here. I remember seeing one in all the times I’ve been here. There isn’t a single house that’s listed that’s a real possibility and probably not even one that I’ll look at. Hopefully something will get listed before I leave. As we were driving, I kept saying “I’d by that house!” but it wasn’t for sale. I’m not going to start knocking on doors asking if people will sell their homes. What looks ok on the outside might be totally what we don’t want on the inside.
I have found one house that . . maybe . . if we gut the kitchen, we could make it work. Right now, the washer is sitting right next to the stove, the dryer is in the garage. The carpet would all need to be changed. The roof is supposed to be new but looking at it from the road, I’m skeptical. Nicole’s dad does a lot of remodeling so I was thinking of getting him to look at it with me to see if what I’m wanting to do (make an “L” shaped kitchen arrangement and put the stove in the “L”, then make a laundry room/closet in that part of the kitchen where the stove/washer are now. I would have to get the house for WAY less than they’re asking and I figure close to $30K to do what we want to do. The realtor said that’s not a good idea for a two bedroom, one bath home that we know we’ll want to sell in a few years . . if we want to get our money back.
There are enough houses that I do like that something will come on the market eventually. My main goal is to have a place here by Thanksgiving but it isn’t going to be Thanksgiving, 2018 so since the first Thanksgiving we can be here is 2019, there’s no reason to settle for something that isn’t what we want.
Last night Chad said “Mom, face it! You are never going to find a perfect house in this town!” I said “I did it once, I can do it again!”
I want them to have memories of us all baking pies and roasting turkey and ham for the holidays. I want Addie to come by my house after school and bake cookies. I want to see them more! But, I’m going to be patient and wait for a house that doesn’t need a ton of work and a house where Vince will be happy too.

You are right to wait. If you get one that has to be redone, you will be redoing it forever!

It’s hard to be patient, but you are right, a house will come up.
Lani says
Is there a possibility you can build a house there? I know it would take longer, but you’d get what you want.
You might think about talking with a realtor, letting them know what you want and they can be on the lookout, or know when something is coming on the market.
Sharon says
Have you looked on Craigslist? Maybe there might be a for sale by owner there.
