Yesterday afternoon the freeze dryer finished, I took everything out, did the automatic defrost again and had the dog food in the freeze dryer before dark.
There are 7 pints of strawberries (one pint had to make a second trip through the vacuum chamber so it isn’t in the picture), a quart and a pint of mushrooms and 2-1/2 pints of kefir.
Several of you asked about the strawberries. After freeze drying, they’re tart but they do have a strawberry flavor and I’m surprised they’re as good as they are. I like them. Addie would probably say they’re sour and spit them out. Next year I’ll try to freeze dry them when they’re more in season.
We have a local guy who had a fantastic fruit market here and he’s left the business and is building a new one and it’s going to be closer to me. I’ll be so happy when they open. They always have the best produce that I can get in town and I miss them while they’re in the process of getting the new place built and open.

You are so right! Cullen is just like his dad! Cullen’s dad and his brother started this fruit stand way back in the late 40’s or early 50’s! I can remember us selling them watermelons to resell. They always buy from the local growers first! That way you know it is fresh. Cullen’s dad taught him everything and he was a good study! He picked up on all the good traits of his dad! His wife is moving her beauty shop (which was also on those lots) to the new location. She has a few hairdressers and manicurists who will follow her there. I went to church with them and they are the sweetest couple you could ever find! Raised two beautiful daughters as well. Cullen also got his work ethic from his dad!

It sounds like the kind of place we used to buy Jersey white corn – only the best tasting everything! We had a pretty good fruit farm here, and they decided to close down last year. I was sad, because I loved going to pick blackberries every year. The apple farm is almost an hour away, so I don’t go as often.
