Most of the eggs my chickens lay are large but yesterday when I was getting eggs there was a huge one.
It was 88 grams and my eggs usually weigh in the 55 to 60 gram range.
I was hoping the big one would have a double yolk.
It’s amazing how excited I get when I crack open an egg with a double yolk.

Growing up we had eggs and poultry delivered by our egg-man Mr. Eisle. We were always excited when we got a double yolker too.

I used to live close to a seasonal fruit/vegetabletable stand that also sold eggs. One spring almost every egg we purchased was a “twin” egg. The six yo grandson living with us at the time was so excited!

Ok – it is going to be a dumb question – but I don’t really know things about poultry and all. If this were fertilized – would it/could it become twins? And are there suck things as twins in egg laying birds?

when my daughter was small we lived near a dairy store (only cheeses, all kinds of eggs, milk and cream) and the owner ‘candled’ all his eggs. at holiday times, you could order all double yolkers for passover baking at higher prices. my mother and my mother-in-law would place their orders with me and i would pass them along. i had to order them far in advance to get 10 dozen for the three of us. wonderful store and wonderful eggs.

I can’t remember the last time I had an egg with a double yolk. We used to think they were fun, too, when I was young. Some things never change, right? =)
