I’ve been on the low carb eating plan for four full days now and I’ve lost exactly four pounds. I’m thrilled but I know that isn’t sustainable. I expect to continue to lose about a pound per day til Thursday and then I’ll be happy with 1.5 pounds per week. The one pound per day is simply because I ate so much sugar/starch (Dr. Pepper, figs/fruit, bread, candy) so getting off that was a huge cut to the carbs/calories I’ve been eating.
According to the app (Carb Manager) and the info I put in (weight/height/how much I want to lose per week – 1.5 pounds), this is what I’m allowed:
- 14 net carbs
- 86 g. fat
- 69 g. protein
- 1108 net calories
Last night, my blood/sugar was 77 and I knew that was on the lower side of normal. This morning, after fasting through the night, I checked it again and it was 72 so need up the carbs a little. I’m going to aim for 16 net carbs today and check my blood/sugar levels after having 16 net carbs for a couple of days. I would feel more comfortable with it around 80. That would give me some room for fluctuation without going so low.
I’m not a medical expert so anyone who wants to give me advice on this . . feel free.
I’m not feeling hungry or light headed or weak and I don’t want to get to that point.

How did you feel in the 70s? I would let that be my guide. =)

the 70’s are only low for a diabetic on meds. If your not a diabetic, and your feeling good, those are wonderful numbers.

Judy, how are you measuring your blood sugar? If I missed it in another post, you can just point me to the title of that post.
I’m finding your reports on your use of this diet very interesting. Over ten years ago, I did the Atkins diet and lost quite a bit of weight. Went on over the years to gain back about half of it. Now, I’ve been diagnosed with diabetes, so have no choice but to do something about it. I’ve generally not eaten much sugar laden foods, so it’s not easy cutting down on the carbs! I have a really hard time trying to do without my bread!
