For a couple of years now, Vince’s recliner has been making noise. He reclines, he sits there for a while . . sometimes for hours, sometimes for minutes . . wait . . always for hours but . . the chair makes this awful noise and it’s very unpredictable. Sometimes he’s been sitting in the chair for a few minutes and it does it. Sometimes, he’s been sitting there for hours and it does it. Sometimes . . rarely . . it doesn’t even do it.
It sounds like a gun going off and I jump and sometimes say a bad word . . every time it happens. Lately, it’s been louder and happening more often and it scares me every time it does it. Imagine sitting here, after dark, TV’s on, Vince is sleeping in his chair and BAM . . that chair makes that awful noise. Vince said he can feel it “drop” a couple of inches when it does it.
I’ve been threatening to go buy a new chair. He swears he can fix it. It’s a La-Z-Boy and Vince knew there was some long warranty on parts so he called them and when he described what was wrong, they knew exactly what it was. They had to send the parts to a La-Z-Boy authorized dealer and luckily, and surprisingly, there is one in town. They never called to let us know the parts were in but they’ve had about three times as long as it should have taken to get here so while Vince was out picking up new meds, he ran by the furniture store and yes, the parts were there!
Arriving and being installed are two very different things. I hope the parts aren’t hard to install and he can do it soon . . before I have to take drastic measures and go buy a replacement chair! 🙂

That’s not a Wall-a-way is it? I have one and was told “it’s suppose to be jiggly”. Translated it will wiggle as far side to side and it does back and forth. This is the only type that will work in my sewing room. So….I’ve gotten use to “jiggly”.

Nope, standard recliner. It wasn’t the jiggly but the loud noise it made that was bugging me.

It does sound alarming!

We have had Lazy Boy chairs before and the parts have a lifetime warranty. BUT the people who sell them and are authorized dealers are supposed to put them in for you. Don’t know if you have to take it to them or not but they should install it for you. They may charge for the installation now, but it should only be a nominal fee. I think my chair now is a Lazy Boy. Was this Southwest Appliance? I don’t know how they are now, but they were really snobby and rude when we told them our chair had failed. We bought 2 from them and they didn’t want to hear it! I will not be buying a chair from them, If you need to buy one I would suggest Everidge’s in Brady. They even deliver to BWD so I bet they would deliver to your house as well. They have quality furniture and a good reputation for taking care of their customers.

It was easier for Vince to fix it himself than to deal with having someone pick it up or us take in to be fixed. We won’t buy any more furniture here. We have extras of just about everything, including a recliner in the sewing room, and whatever we can wear out and get rid of is less we’ll have to move some day. We have an extra sofa, extra stove, extra washer and dryer, extra table and chairs . . yes, way too much stuff from a house three times the size of this one.

I hope peace of mind is soon on it’s way. That would drive me crazy, too. Not impressed with the local store’s customer service, though.
