My uncle has been an educator his entire life. He taught in public schools, was principal at public schools, was an administrator in the school system, then he retired, went on to teach at McNeese and eventually became executive director at CARC, which is an organization totally devoted to helping those with mental handicaps.
CARC has done amazing work to help the disabled in this area. They’ve made progress with education, vocational training and housing for those folks. While my uncle was director, and it continues, they’ve built group homes where 5 to 7 (or maybe a few more – I don’t know all there is to know about the workings) live. Last year they built some duplexes and named the complex “Stroud Manor” after my uncle.
My uncle’s last name is Stroud and naming that complex after him was such an honor.
He’s done such good work and truly has made tireless contributions to improve the lives of the disabled and give hope to so many families. I’m proud of him, the work he’s done and the legacy he will leave.

What a lovely gesture! I’m happy that they did it now so he realizes what a blessing he’s been to the community.

That is wonderful! We need more people like him in our world. We are still battling Social Security over benefits from Don’s work history. I had to dig up an old IEP to take to Tarc so they could prove to SS that his disability began before the age of 22. We’ll see where it goes from here.
Congrats to your uncle. He must be so proud!

That has to be so frustrating. I hope you get it all straightened out soon.

He must be an amazing person! I bet he did a lot to help those people. I admire folks like him! Ella McBride and her first husband ran a school and group home for homeless youth. Some adopted her and still call her mom. She is in our group, and is married to the Priest at Good Shepherd. They are leaving (retiring) in April.
Judy Laquidara says
Oh, no! Are they leaving town? They are good people. I remember you had told me that about Ella. She’s a very sweet lady.
