Any time I’m going to have a greasy hamburger, my best shot at avoiding an ER visit due to an allergy is to take allergy meds before eating the burger. The allergy is called alpha-gal allergy and I had my reaction in 2002 and it was about five years ago that I figured out what was causing it, then got the diagnosis confirmed and now that I know what it is, I take the allergy meds and only once have I had a reaction and it wasn’t bad enough to go to the ER.
But, when I’m back in Nevada, I can’t pass up the best hamburger ever!
I keep allergy meds in the car but after cleaning everything out of my car to take it to the shop before I left, I must have removed even the allergy meds so I ran into the pharmacy here and bought a package of generic allergy meds. It worked I guess . . or this wasn’t the time for the reaction because all is well here. I don’t think I’m brave enough to risk having another burger while I’m here but it sure was good.

Judy, You know that at anytime the allergy can become life threatening. That means you might not have reaction this time and the next can be life changer You might want to get and Epi pen to keep in your purse not in the car. Heat from the car ruins all medication to by the way.I know you know that. Just a friendly reminder. Please be safe we need your daily updates they get us going. GLad you are having a great time With Addie, Chad and Nicole too.Family time is the best. Enjoy

Not to worry. I get tested every couple of years now that a test is available and my levels are getting very close to normal. For some people, the levels never change but for some, they do go down and can even get within a normal range. I do keep an epi-pen but my doctor feels it is safe to eat a fatty type meat on occasion if I take allergy meds before eating it and against 6 hours later.
I’m quite careful and do use my brain when necessary! 🙂
