How ordinary can a cookie be . . vanilla wafers or ginger snaps. You may be thinking ordinary until you’ve had Slaton Bakery‘s vanilla wafers or ginger snaps.
One day I was in the checkout line at United and I hadn’t even noticed the display right by the checkout. The lady behind me . . you know how talkative folks are in a small town . . started this conversation:
Lady Behind Me: Have you ever tried these cookies? I guess she looked at me and said “This lady must LOVE cookies!”
Me: No!
Lady Behind Me: They are amazing. I grew up in Slaton and they’ve been around and making cookies forever.
Me: I’ll try them!
I’m such a sucker. I bought a bag of vanilla wafers and I opened the bag on the way home. They are truly amazing. If I could only have one cookie for the rest of my life, it would be these vanilla wafers. Then I tried the ginger snaps. Just as good as the vanilla wafers.
Here’s a recipe for Slaton Bakery’s Banana Pudding recipe that I found online. I’m kinda not excited about a banana pudding recipe that uses instant pudding but hey . . I’ll try anything once.
Don’t get excited. They’re not all for me. Funny that I have vanilla wafers and bananas but I’m not making a banana pudding . . not with these bananas anyway.
The longer my retirement list gets, the more I come to realize that I’ll probably be here forever. I have Aldi and Slaton’s Bakery cookies on my list — cannot move somewhere that doesn’t have Aldi or doesn’t have Slaton Bakery cookies.
It’s funny because everywhere we’ve lived, there’s been something that I loved and cannot get anywhere else. I guess for me, the bottom line will always be one little girl . . wherever she lives, I’ll scratch everything else off my list to be close to her. Who knows if that will ever happen but I’ll never give up on that dream.

Oh No!! they probably won’t be available in my area. Have you seen them anywhere else (Walmart??) How was the price?

Hmm. It does say that shipping is available and you do make them sound like a MUST TRY!

In one of HEB’s recipes it mentions “horchata” do you know what that is? Many of their recipes sound good but there is always one ingredient that is not in our local stores ( well–not in Publix). It sounds like there are some things that are particular to Texas. No wonder you can not leave, unless they deliver, I forgot to check that. Thanks for introducing us to something else we all want. You are good at this 🙂

Horchata is a drink made of rice water, cinnamon and vanilla. Looks like a low-fat milk. It’s available in most grocery stores where I live (central California). Definitely available in Hispanic/Mexican food markets. If you’re in an area without much Hispanic population, it may be hard to find.

You must have a big following. They now have a note on their home page about the locations of where the Vanilla Wafers and Ginger snaps are sold. They will ship for a min. of six packages.
I know they would not be in my area but I already like Vanilla wafers so these must be amazing. I just need to decide if I need six packages of cookies.

Is there a Braum’s near you? If so, do you love it? That’s the ONE thing I had a hard time doing without. If I’m going to eat ice cream, it’s Braum’s chocolate almond..LOVE!

My HEB app says that they are at my Fredericksburg store. On my list for this week!
Thanks for the tip – I think – but my scale and jeans may not thank you!
