It was Christmas, 2006. I had no idea what to get Vince. I got him a Cookshack Smoker . . which I don’t think he’s ever used once but I’ve used the heck out of it and he’s enjoyed the benefits.
By my standards, it’s an expensive little smoker but it has worked like a charm for 10 years now. We use it at least twice a month – bacon, ribs, brisket, pork butt, chickens, salmon. I smoked salmon this past weekend and am smoking a brisket tomorrow.
We started out using it in Kentucky. At the house in town, the back porch wasn’t covered so we bought a cover from Cookshack for it and it sat out in the weather with that cover. In MO, we put it on a rolling cart and kept it in the garage and would move it out when we were using it. Here, it sits under the carport. I wish we still had the cover . . it’s somewhere but I have no idea where.
If that thing broke tomorrow and was unfixable (probably wouldn’t happen), I’d buy the exact same model. It’s small but I can put plenty in it. I would like for Vince to build me a little smokehouse for smoking lots of sausage, but even with a smokehouse, I’d probably still use my little electric smoker for most of my everyday smoking.
It’s nice to look back on a 10 year old item and know that even though I was hesitant to spend that much money, it was a great investment.

We have had that same exact smoker for about 10 years and just love it, too!

I just had to laugh. Right under the photo was a quitting smoking ad. We don’t want the smoker to quit in this case! 🙂

Your link doesn’t work for the smoker. I was going to check it out….we keep going back and forth on purchasing one. I think that was an excellent Christmas gift for your husband! How many weed eaters have you received? 🙂

When I checked it last, the whole cookshack site was down. Check it again . . it should be working now.

That was a good buy! And probably cost a lot more today, too. Maybe you should get another one just to have one in case. =)

Is that a heating element that comes down from the top of the smoker and you insert it into the meat? I used to have a charcoal smoker, but it was large and messy to use and eventually rusted out. Have been considering a green egg, but those are even more costly, bulkier too. This looks like it may be the best solution.

We have an egg but it’s a knock off brand and it’s totally different from my smoker. We can smoke meat in the egg but we also can grill steaks and make pizza on it.
The thing you see coming down from the top of the smoker is the probe for my remote thermometer. I keep the read out end in the house and can set it to beep at a certain temp or time.
