Maybe! This might represent all the socks I have started . . maybe. SOCKtober begins October 1 so hopefully some of these will get finished.
This kinda surprises me . . believe it or not. I’m not too bad about starting bunches of knitting projects, or, I wasn’t until a few months ago. Why would anyone have 9 pairs of socks started? A couple of them I can rationalize.
Bottom Row – Left to Right
- Green Socks – That’s a test knit for a sock designer. The first sock is done. The second sock only has the ribbing done because I’m waiting for clarification on part of the pattern she’s changing a bit.
- Pink Socks – That’s the socks for a Knit Along for July/August/September. I could finish those this week but I may save them and finish them after October 1 so I can get points for SOCKtober.
- Pink Hand Dyed – That’s my second pair of Diamondbacks. We had a bit of a disaster last night (me and the Diamondbacks) so I had to start the second sock over.
- Black with Orange – That’s my socks made out of the Tortoise Shell (colored) yarn.
- Blue/Green – Those are a pair that I kept in my car for those times when you get stranded and need a project. I had to take them out in March when we took the car to the shop after the deer collision and . . there they sit.
Top Row – Left to Right
- All of those are plain Jane socks, except the second from right. I keep several pairs of those at various stages. I can do everything except the heel and gusset without paying any attention at all so I keep those around for when I’m on a long winded telephone conversation, or when there’s a TV show or a game on and I’m not paying enough attention to my knitting to do anything that requires concentration. Once one sock gets to the heel, I’ll put it aside til I have some quiet time, and pick up another one that’s at the point of not needing a lot of attention.
The way I think it works for SOCKtober is that you get points for completing socks and they can be already started before October 1; you get points for using sponsor yarn, sponsor pattern, sponsor accessories. Since I’d rather finish a few projects than get so many points, I’m not worrying about sponsor yarn or patterns. This is my first SOCKtober so my goal is going to be finishing up socks. There is a mystery that I plan to do but if I end up finishing at least four pairs of socks during October, I’ll feel like a winner . . even if I don’t win any of the SOCKtober competitions.

You can never have too many sock projects…unless you run out of needles…
