Today it’s cool (73º), raining and we have rain in the forecast for Friday and Saturday. After living through a drought, I don’t even mind if it rains on a holiday weekend! We’ve come to appreciate the rain any time we can get it.
The cooler days, the shorter days, the rain . . it feels like Fall and it makes me want to start backing.
Remember last year . . right at the end of the year, after Christmas . . when I found Springerle Joy and ordered a bunch of molds? I am ready to use them! If I start making Christmas cookies this early, it won’t be any fun at Christmas but some of them aren’t totally Christmas.
Deer season starts soon.
It seems to be chicken season all year around here! 🙂
I’ve always used anise oil but I think I’m going to try other flavors this year – maybe lemon or orange oil, and there are all kinds of flavorings.
Just when I couldn’t get my mind off making them, I got a newsletter from Springerle Joy with their new molds for 2016 so I had to order a few of those. Anyone want to guess how long it will be before I drag out all my supplies and make a batch of springerle cookies?

Thanks for the link to Springerle Joy. I have springerle rolling pins from each of my grandmothers, and can’t wait to acquire a few molds for this year’s batch!

Go for it! I’ve got a hankering for Snickerdoodles myself.

We got rain up here in Oregon for the first time in quite a while. Feels like fall also so I made a pot of soup and a loaf of pumpkin bread. My favorite time of year!

I would say before the weekend is over! Does the winner get a batch sent to them?

I am hungry now. Get busy.

I bet this weekend would be a perfect time to make some of those cute chicken and deer ones.
We are having a perfect holiday weekend, sunny, no rain, very low humidity and high 80 and 82. You could come to MO to bake your cookies. 🙂 I’ve never tasted these. What are they similar to?

I tried making lemon ones last year. They just weren’t the same. I’m sticking to the anise. Can you believe I have a cookie stamp with a blacksmith on it?!

My father and some friends of his from church would make springerle at Christmas. It was always fun to be there, but at no time then or now did I like those little hockey pucks.
