I don’t consider myself a drama queen but sometimes I have to wonder about that since so much of the time, a normal, routine experience turns into a fiasco. Is it just me making a big deal out of the ordinary or do weird, strange things happen around here?
Yesterday my friend was over and we were going to go for an RTV ride. I told her that I had to make sure Cat wasn’t in the RTV because sometimes, she hangs out in there and for some reason, she does not like it when I ask her to move so I can use my RTV.
If Cat isn’t on top of my car, she’s either stretched out in the floor or on the seat of the RTV. She will sit there and hiss at me but eventually she’ll get down.
My friend asked if I needed help getting her out and I said no . . she’ll get out after she realizes I’m getting in with her. I looked in the RTV and she wasn’t in there so I hopped in and about the time I started the RTV, she jumped down from somewhere up under the dash.
I had no idea this perfect little vacant spot was up under the dash – just the right spot for Cat . . and sheknew it was there. She’s probably been hanging out in there for a while, especially when there’s activity around the house, and I’m betting she loved knowing that no one had any idea she was there. One thing for sure — she scared the heck out of me. She was down and out before it dawned on me that it was Cat. All I saw was a big, black, furry thing that exited my vehicle at a rapid speed. Makes me wonder what other critters might have hiding places in there. I always look around for snakes . . in the floor, behind the seat . . before plopping myself down in there and now I’ll always wonder what’s under the dash.
Then, we were on our way back to her house. We had made it through a bit of tall weeds and were on her driveway and there was a big, long snake slithering across the driveway. I thought I could run over it and trap it under my front wheels. Then we could see if it was a good or bad snake and take appropriate action. I was leaning out of the RTV to see if my wheels were on the snake when my friend/passenger squealed. I had not run over the snake and he had turned and headed back into the woods . . towards my house! When she squealed, I screamed! I knew that snake could make its way into the cab of the RTV and that’s what I was thinking about when she squealed.
I had to laugh . . two city girls living in the country, trying to run over a snake and both screaming like school girls!
I wonder if those pioneer women screamed or if they had more self control. I’m betting if they didn’t scream, they wanted to!
It will be a long time before I get in that RTV without thinking about what’s under the dash . . and even longer before I can drive around in the RTV without thinking about that big snake but this time of year, I hardly ever stop thinking about snakes when I’m out.

I bet they screamed.
